private parties.
"Discovering the Stories Behind My Colonial Virginia
Ancestors"
My ancestor, William Daingerfield, followed his fathers
footsteps as master of Greenfield, gentleman justice of the
peace for Essex County and a member of the Virginia House of
Burgesses. I knew the names of his parents and siblings, but
none of the details of their lives that would make them come
alive. Join me as I describe a whirlwind week of research in
Richmond, Virginia, during which I discovered the stories
behind my Colonial Virginia ancestors.
"Connecting the Dots to Create the Story"
The events described above, but geared particularly for
writing groups rather than genealogical societies. This talk
addresses the questions, How do you do your research? and
How much of your stories is true and how much is
fiction?
"Celebrating the 400th Anniversary of the Founding of
Jamestown"
As a member of the First California Company of the
Jamestowne Society, I give lectures about the May 14, 1607
founding of Jamestowne, the first enduring English
settlement in the New World. In addition to its historical
significance, I tell the real deal about Captain John Smith
and Pocahantas.
"Charlemagnes Ancestors & the World in Which They
Lived"
Enjoy a vivid account of the lives and times of those
who led the way to Charlemagne's unprecedented reign. This
presentation was given as the keynote address at the
national Banquet of the Order of the Crown of Charlemagne,
in Washington D.C. It has since been reprised to the delight
of other audiences who are fascinated with history.
"Birth of a Novel"
I'll tell a bit of my life story as teacher, musician,
private pilot and writer, including the path I took to
achieve my dream to write and publish historical novels from
my family tree. Don't let anyone tell you your dream
is out of reach!
"Shaking Stories from Your Family Tree"
Write memoirs and family stories of your ancestors, for
your children and grandchildren or for publication and
profit. But write them with the voice of a novelist, so your
audience will read and treasure what you have to say.
"Writing Historically 1, 2, 3 - Research, Organize,
Write"
1. Where to look, what to look for. 2. Organize
your information so you can find what you need, when you
need it. 3. Avoid Research Rapture and finally write the
book.
"Marketing Strategies for Your Book"
Self published or major New York publisher, you still
need to be the marketing specialist for your books. Use my
marketing plan, "A Dozen Things to Do Between Print Date
and Pub Date" to set your book up for success.
"Your Publishing Options"
What to do, when, where and how, to set up a company,
keep records, produce and market your book. In today's
publishing climate, more and more successful authors are
following the lead of the Indies of the film world, and
doing it all themselves. Never have to write another query
letter or synopsis. Never receive another rejection. Know as
you put pen to paper or fingers to the computer, your book
will be published
