Summer Brushes Painting Classes in July 2009

This summer Shawn Costello is offering "sunset" and "sunrise" painting classes in July. Students will meet in town at a designated location with easel and paints. Classes will be held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings 5:30 PM. to 8:30 P.M. and Wednesday and Friday mornings 9:00 A.M. to 12.00 Noon.

Students will look at the work of Frederic Remington as well as other masters that capture the light of dusk and morning light. Last year Shawn took a workshop with Connie Hayes and explored the process of pre-staining the canvas with brilliant color. During the sunset hours colors are rich and shadows are deep and long. After the sun goes down there is an almost mystical momentary dance of color - lighting the Bay of Fundy and the streets of Lubec. During the morning hours there is a brilliant glow. Students will bring a couple of small canvases each day to paint and we will have a final critique on Friday with a celebration.

Cost is $250 per week - Monday through Friday during the month of July beginning Monday, July 6. Each student must bring their own supplies. Oils, acrylics, or pastels are recommended. For more information or to register please email her at
