| This shirtdress is from Burda World of Fashion, July 2001
issue. It's linen from Michael's Fabrics, underlined in the body with a
stiffly woven silk.
I made no modifications to this pattern, except
that I omitted the shoulder strap. The sleeves are rolled up and strapped up into
the cuff with a fabric strip and button, and the front patch pockets have a working flap
with button.
This dress was shown in the magazine worn open
as an 'overblouse' over pants, and now I know why. In my opinion, it looks much
better that way than as a dress. |

Wool
jersey top and slim wool flannel skirt. Top is a modification of Nancy Erickson's
1960 top pattern. Skirt is an old standby McCall's pattern I've had since 1990.
Fabric from Jomar Textiles, Philadelphia. |
|
| This is
pattern number 123 from the April 2001 Burda "World of Fashion" magazine.
This version is of eyelet; I also made another one using white poplin. This is a
nice, utilitarian blouse that did not take a lot of effort. To make the collar and
stand, I used what I think is an excellent method, as described by David Page Coffin
in his book, Shirtmaking. In this photo, it looks like the front hem is
uneven, but that's just the way I'm standing. |

This
is the Nepali Blouse from Folkwear Patterns. This one is of blue linen from Jomar
Textiles.
This is a nice casual look and I have one of
these in wool jersey, also. I like this linen version for warmer weather, since
linen is a 'breathable' fabric.

| This dress,
completed in April 2002, is adapted from Nancy Erickson (Fashion Sewing Group) top
pattern 1960. I must have 5 of these dresses, made up from a variety of knit
fabrics. Some sleeveless, some 3/4 sleeve, some full sleeve. This one is made
of a stretch velvet fabric from Emma One Sock. |
|
This is
the Tibetan Chupa from Folkwear Patterns. I like this because the skirt wraps
around to the back, thus creating lots of walking ease while retaining a narrow look in
the front. The fabric is a silk/wool blend and one that, frankly, I didn't like too
much -- I had purchased it from an internet seller without looking at a swatch. So,
I had a go at this pattern for the first time with this fabric as my 'test' muslin.
I got lucky because I actually like the finished product! |

| Pants
Suit - Fashion Sewing Group Pattern. Dark Blue Wool Crepe, also from Nancy
Erickson. I reviewed this pattern in May 2002 on patternreview.com. |
 |
This blouse
is from Marfy- Italy's spring 2002 collection. They recommend a flowing fabric, but
I chose a white cotton eyelet. I completed this blouse in February/March
2002. I reviewed this pattern on patternshowcase.com. |
 |
| This is
the Barcelona Dress by Textile Studio patterns. This dress comes with two bodice
styles, short and long sleeved. I like this short sleeved version best. I
reviewed this pattern on patternshowcase.com. Completed July, 2001. The fabric
is a rayon chiffon from Jomar Textiles. |
 |
This was
taken late at night after I had completed this skirt, but didn't want to take off my
sweats to put it on. The cotton fabric was a gift from a friend who had purchased it
while on vacation in western Africa. The trim is from Jomar. I lined it with a
pink rayon I had laying around in the sewing room. The shoe on top of the dress form
was worn with this skirt. |

Wool-Alpaca Long Jacket and Skirt - Fashion Sewing Group Pattern.
Fabric from Nancy Erickson. |
 |
Pants -
My Own Design - I learned to drape and design at an evening class at Moore College of Art
in Philadelphia. Fabric is wool gabardine, lined with silk. Fabric from Jomar
Textiles, Philadelphia. Completed April, 2001. |
 |
| This is
an Adri design from Vogue Patterns. Completed in Summer 1999. Fabric from S.R.
Harris of Minneapolis. |
|
Burda top
and pants. Completed in July 2000. Fabric from The Souder Store, Souderton
Pennsylvania. Both patterns are from 1998/9 Burda World of Fashion magazines. I
can't remember which particular issues. |
|
| This is
from a February 2001 issue of Burda World of Fashion. Fabric from Jomar
Textiles. Rayon. If I made this dress again, I would add more fabric to the
underwrap portion of the skirt, and I would also attach it to the opposite seam 6 inches
above the hem, as a stiff breeze proved to be detrimental to my comfort in wearing this
dress! In the meantime, I retrofitted this dress with a tie on the inside, which
doesn't show but adds to my sense of security. |
 |
This is
my Easter dress from 2001. It's from a brushed/sueded rayon from Jomar. The
pattern is adapted from one in Burda World of Fashion, spring 2001. |
