Medy loves the freedom of abstract expressionism; freedom to use any color and create any shape, freedom from the boundaries of representational art. In January 2005, Medy signed up for a Lyrical Abstract Expressionism class taught by Georgette Pettit. That class opened a whole new world for her and started her path towards abstract expressionism. She paints with abandon applying paint with large, loose brush strokes combined with "calligraphy".
Medy's paintings capture the excitement of colors, lines and shapes that represent nothing and everything. Her paintings have a story to tell and it's up to you, the viewer, to discover it.
As a natural extension to her “calligraphy” Medy discovered Line Art. She creates a design with one line without taking the pen off the paper and then adds finishing touches. They are whimsical, fun and delightful pieces that appeal to all ages. And, as one form of art leads to another in the continuing evolution of an artist, Medy started creating wire sculptures based on her Line Art.
Medy
exhibited her artistic talent and inclination at an early age. In grade school
she excelled in art classes and created posters for school activities.
Although Medy holds a Masters degree in Computer Science she is always in touch with the artist within her. She takes art classes when she can - at the University of the Philippines in Manila where she’s originally from, the George Washington University in Washington DC where she lived for a few years, and at the Guild of Creative Arts, Brookdale Community College both in Monmouth County, NJ where she currently resides with her husband Louis DiMento. Medy took metal cutting, welding, and soldering and brazing classes at the Shore Institute of the Contemporary Arts.
Medy has created representational art in oil, pastel and watercolor but it is in abstract expressionism that she found her true calling. Medy is also a Fine Art Photographer. She carries a camera with her at all times always alert to the beauty around her, ready to take a picture when it presents itself.
Her art works have been accepted in Juried Art Shows at the Shore Institute of the Contemporary Arts, Monmouth County Arts Council, Monmouth Festival of the Arts, Art Alliance of Monmouth County and the Guild of Creative Arts. Medy had a solo show in NY city in Jan 2008 and she was Discover Jersey Arts featured artist for June 2008.
