Tina Harris, SAC Director SAC@summitchildrensprogram.org
The
SAC after school program operates out of a separate
classroom space that is specifically equipped
for elementary school students (K-12 years old).
The Summit Children's Program has a unique relationship
with the C.W. Henry School, located just a block
away at Carpenter Lane and Greene Street. Students
enrolled at Henry and Summit are escorted by foot
by Summit staff to and from school. Have to be
at work before school opens? You can drop your
child(ren) at SAC and know they wil get to school
on time. Early dismissal? SAC knows when those
days are and picks up the children at the early
dismissal time. School closed? SAC is usually
open. Students enrolled in other schools can sometimes
have the school bus drop them off at Summit. Morning
and Holiday care are each provided for an additional
fee.
In the SAC program we provide a daily schedule
that balances flexibility and structure, providing
children with the opportunity to choose from a
variety of stimulating activities within an environment
that promotes security, safety and independence.
Daily clubs, acting, computer lab, homework
help, gym time, outdoor play and various other
special interest classes are planned
weekly by SAC staff based on children's needs
and interests. Children benefit from the mixing
of age groups.
There
is close to full participation in the drama productions,
which have benefitted from the talent of professional
drama instructors. Leah Stein, Artistic Director
of Leah
Stein Dance Company, offers movement classes
for the children, which have enhanced the drama
productions. She “..strives to bring dance
to a wide spectrum of people from diverse backgrounds,
age groups and communities. With invention, humor,
and surprise, and inspired by the physics of movement
and the forces of nature, Stein’s improvisational,
spontaneous and all-inclusive approach to dance
making sparks synergy between performers and audience,
highlighting the interconnectedness of people,
culture and the physical environment.” (from
her web site). Students from Summit will participate
in Leah’s new site work at Historic RittenhouseTown,
a performance she created.
Letter to SAC Parents
SAC Specific 2009-2010 Calendar
“What
does a school age child want to do after
a day in school? Here at Summit After
Care (SAC), we ask them! And with their
feedback, we provide daily activities,
such as creative art, sports, computers,
environmental exploration, independent
choice activities and time to just hang
out with friends...The staff and our
collaboration with outside resources
provide the children with opportunities
to learn about being responsible, feeling
comfortable with themselves and their
special interests and abilities. We
encourage children to respect and accept
each other, and have a positive attitude
for playing, learning and building relationships.
We make every effort to support each
child with their individual development
and needs. Our goal is to provide them
with all the ingredients that will help
them communicate with people of all
ages and live and grow in a society
where they can make a difference.”
