Here Comes the State Skills & Leadership Conference
Now that the regional contests are done, we now turn our focus on the upcoming SkillsUSA California Skills & Leadership Conference. It is scheduled for April 23-26, and will be held at the Fresno Convention Center in Fresno. This is where the best from across the State of California converge to see who will earn the honor of representing California at the National Skills & Leadership Conference in June.
The plan is that we will be leaving Ayala HS on Thursday, April 23 around 7:30 AM, and will be returning the following Sunday in the evening. We will be putting in the Piccadilly Inn Airport, which is six miles from the Convention Center. Fortunity our bus driver will be staying at the same hotel and will provide us with transportation as needed. The conference registration costs will be around $150 per person. Besides the materials for the conference, this cost covers dinner for Thursday evening, Friday lunch, Friday dinner, and Saturday lunch. Breakfast is on your own. Hotel rooms go for $108 per night, for a room of four. The cost of transportation and chaperons will be added to the cost. Once we have all of the confirmed registrations, the final cost per student will be determined.
Now we need to study for the Professional Develop Test that will be given on that Thursday night. Here are some sample questions to study. You can find most of the answers in the SkillsUSA Leadership Handbook. If you have not checked out a copy, see Mr. Munsey as soon as possible. This will also be our topic of discussion at the next few meetings.
