It has been said, time and time again, that there simply comes a time where one finally "gets" triathlon swimming, and in "getting" the technique, the athlete finds that they can suddenly jump up the yardage and finish with plenty of energy. People have even reported suddenly doubling their swim volume, and not only feeling stronger, but finishing with the sensation they could "continue going on forever." Nothing scientific is happening, rather, it's something that just "clicks". There were times, let me tell you, where this sounded like the most improbable and ridiculous piece of sport-training advice I've ever come across. Yet, today, I was made a believer.

I had a 2000 meter swim on tap for today's workout - and usually, anything over 1500m leaves me a bit broken down. However, today I just found a tempo to swim, and length after length of pool just ticked by... And clicked. I finished feeling fresher than I started. Warmed up and ready to go for more. It was phenomenal.

In the water, I've suddenly gone from the hunted, to the hunter.

In other news, the weather here has been a bit uncooperative. I was driving home last night and nearly got swept away from the wind howling across the Rexford bridge. Lightning crashed, thunder roared and in the end, it was even hotter and more humid than before the storm. Today was in the nineties and as humid as the pool locker room.

Moreover, this weekend isn't going to be any cooler. Or drier for that matter. Something about racing and hot, humid, wet weather. But I feel as though I've finally acclimated to the heat, so if it does end up being as bad as they predict, I should still be able to pull something out of the bag at the race. Good for me. Bad for my competitors.

See you out there.
