The Other Coffee

It's here. The end of Base 2. Folks, I've done 8 weeks of early aerobic work in Base 1 and 6 weeks of intermediate aerobic work in Base 2, which officially ended today after my long run. I now have a full week of recovery, followed by a short block of Base 3 to transition from aerobic-focused to anaerobic-focused workouts before hitting it hard in the traditional Build phases.
Yes, that's a cup of tea shown above - my usual apres-run beverage of choice in the colder months. So you see? I do drink something other than coffee from time to time.
Anyways, I must say that the training year so far has gone exceptionally well relative to the big plan. I was a little shy on hours during the last two weeks - missing my target of 13 hours by 1 hour last week, and 14.5 hours this week by 1.5 hours - but all in all the quality of my workouts has been spot-on. And I'd much rather aim for the quality over the quantity. During these past 14 weeks, I've built up my long runs to just over 2 hours, my long rides to just over 4 hours and my long swims to just over 1 hour and 15 minutes, and I've done these durations a number of times. On today's long run, I was exceptionally light-footed, and was able to trim off some decent time from one of my usual loops while keeping the same general effort as in weeks prior.
With Spring in the air and my workouts now moving to the outdoors routinely, it's going to really start getting good from here on out. I hope you'll stay tuned.

Joseph,
That looks like some good training for the past few weeks. Can't wait till see when spring comes out when u get into more intensity training.
I love to see that my training is paying off. There's nothing better than finishing up a regular route faster than normal without increased effort. :)
Here's to getting ourselves back in the great out-of-doors!! It is supposed to be 60 here on Friday. Finally! And way to go on finishing B2!
Joe, I'm calling you out, or maybe just putting you on the spot! Are you trying at the Timberman for a spot in the half-ironman WC in Florida this year?
Yes Lucas. But I also understand how aggressive that goal is!
glad training is going as planned! tea what's that ;) bring on more coffee! The way you stick to your schedule is very impressive!
Here's hoping for appropriate results come race time!
Good luck! It appears from reading your blogs that you are doing everything in your power to get one of those few precious spots. There are only 100, correct?
