Totally Random Thoughts

Moving Along Posted by Picasa

Man, this week is just nuts. In fact, it's going by so fast and things are so busy, that I can't even put together a coherent story for a mid-week blog entry. Sorry about that. However, not to disappoint, I thought I'd sketch out a few random thoughts about things that are going on, cause and effect style:

Cause: Walking out of Starbucks this morning with a piping hot Gold Coast blend, it was snowing so thick and heavy that for a moment I thought I was in Upstate, NY. Oh. Wait.

Effect: With ice on the roads this afternoon and winds strong enough to take down trees, I had to... Gulp... Get back on the trainer and the treadmill (i.e., the vomitron and the dreadmill) to do my workouts for the day.

Cause: I ordered a set of race wheels for my Cervelo last week, and I'm seriously hoping they come in soon. Not that they'll even see the road until mid-May or so, but simply to put them on my office desk and stare at them. All day.

Effect: My wife enrolled me in a 12-step program for Zipp fetishists.

Cause: This weekend I'm supposed to do a road race for training, but it's going to only reach a high of 33 degrees.

Effect: I'm starting pull on the layers and get bundled up from now in order to prepare for the cold. The cold that I absolutely hate racing my bike in.

Cause: I've started down the path of Base 3 and have already had a few workouts this week that have pushed me into the higher intensities on the bike and on the run. I've vowed to approach Base 3, and especially Build 1, with exceptional caution this year. You see, usually, I get a little excited about being outdoors and training, I get a little caught up playing Alpha with the locals, yadda, yadda, yadda, and before you know it, I'm going backwards right before my first big set of races. This year, it's all been about slow and steady progression, and sticking to the plan.

Effect: The workouts are going very well, and my motivation remains at an all-time high. I'm feeling excellent as I push up into LT, with plenty of power on the bike, and good leg-turnover on the run. Malto buono. Actually, I'm almost concerned over the fact that my motivation has remained this high for so long this year. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that it has been like this, but I've got to wonder if there's something in the local drinking water here!

As always, thanks for reading. And if any of you readers happen to stumble upon some better weather, send it my way, wouldja?

Hey!! Hang in there. I had to put my bike on the trainer again as well...sigh...but it is supposed to hit 40 balmy degrees here tomorrow! I don't know if that's much better but I'll send it your way anyway. :)

Dude, serious non-sequitur for a cause & effect statement:
quote:
With ice on the roads this afternoon and winds strong enough to take down trees, I had to... Gulp... Get back on the trainer

What's that about? When better to ride on the roads than when you have the additional benefit of working on your bike-handling skills?

I like the thought of a set of Zipps on the desk. Or maybe wall art. :-)

I hope you're happy "Bizgroup" - not only has my alpha complex been (further) damaged, but I actually had to look up "non-sequitur" as you used it in your comment...

Keep this in mind: I know who you are, and I know your Power at LT ;-)

Zipps. I want Zipps.
I'm saving up for some dimpled 404's hopefully in time for IM Canada 07.
Which wheels did you go with? I want pics when you get them!

Sorry your weather sucks. If you lived here... you'd have sun and 50's for the weekend... too bad, so sad. :P
