The Big Oh-Six

It's hard to believe, but one of my all-time favorite training partners turned six years old yesterday. That's right. Ginger came into our life just about that long ago, as a crazy, completely out-of-control, tazmanian devil of a beastie. She was born from a Weimaraner who, apparently, had one heck of a hot date with a Chocolate Lab. As a side note: I defy you to find two breeds with more energy and a greater desire to hunt... Anything.
Anyways - Every year for Ginger's birthday, Liz runs out and grabs a (completely oversized) cake and we sit Ginger at the table with said cake. Granted, the dog gets a little confused when we have her sit on a "human" chair, and even further perplexed when we let her dive into her cake as we sing Happy Birthday to her. Yes, we know we need to get out more.
Ginger has earned her fair share of nicknames over the years, including our favorite: "Buggie" as can be seen on her cake. I'll be honest, I can't even remember how we came up with this one... I know somewhere along the line we started calling her "Ginger-Doodle" which eventually became "The Dude" followed by "Doodle-Bugs". For a while, we called her Buggle, a clever combination if I say so myself, and finally, "Buggie". To be proper, I generally refer to her as The Buggie.
The Buggie has provided literally dozens and dozens of stories over the years. Like the time she ate the homemade jumbo Cannoli right out of the fridge, which was about the size of my forearm, or the pot roast Liz had made in Connecticut. There was the time she grew jealous of the scent of other dogs on my jeans after coming home from my buddy Drew's house, and proceeded to pee all over my lap. But she loves me, and I'm sure she loves Sebastian too, whom she met in the entryway of our Connecticut home and similarly urinated all over the floor when greeting him. And speaking of Connecticut, there was the time when we had just moved there and she decided to investigate the neighborhood farm's chicken coop. Now that, was a mess.
Ginger has run countless miles with me, she's traveled all over with us, she helped me through grad school, she's been by my side in the early mornings as I sip my coffee, she was on the summit of Mount Marcy when I proposed to Liz, and she remains one of my number one race fans. Indeed, it's hard to tell where the time goes, or know why it gets away from us the way it does. But The Buggie has been such an integral part of our lives for the past 6 years, that it's hard to let her birthday go by with any less amount of celebration.
Happy Birthday Buggie!

Happy Birthday Buggie!
There great aren't they. Our dog, Musti, passed away at 14 in Dec. It sure leaves a empty space in the family.
Cheers.
Rice.
That's a lovely dog that u have.
That dog looks as happy and spoiled as the ones down at the 'rentals. They are definitely the greatest companions.
Happy Birthday, Buggie!!!
awwe how cute!
I thought you let her eat the whole cake! Good thing you had the pictures of her with her piece!
I guess you didn't notice this in the confusion, but I was so delighted to meet Ginger that I also peed on the floor.
Sorry 'bout that.
AWWWW! So cute. Glad I'm not the only one who gave my pooch a b-day cake. :)
Sebastian - Hilarious!!!
The dog post makes me sad. I had a dog that I loved and he is not with us anymore. We now have a almost one year old red lab and he is full of puppy power. It frustrating at times but he really is a good dog but not the same as my first.
Glad you have such a great training partner and friends. Dogs can teach us so much about unconditional love.
Well Happy Birthday! I am glad your training partner has such energy and passion! She fits you perfectly! :)
Aggh, so cute! Dogs are such wonderful training partners and companions!
Such a beautiful tribute to your dog Ginger!
D@mn! I 'm pretty sure that I can smell that dog from here!
