Examples of the wild horse trim

The pictures displayed here are of hooves in varying states of health, showing examples of my trim and the progress that can be made when hooves and horses are cared for naturally. The trim itself is only one part of creating healthy hooves; the best examples of healthy bare feet will be found on those horses fed a diet low in sugar and starch (and high in fiber) and who get regular exercise over all manner of ground, using boots when needed for comfort. Gracie, Paint Mare;
Overgrown, neglected feet in late June, 2007;
Remarkable improvement by mid-July (2 1/2 weeks) with regular exercise in hoof boots and exceptional natural horse care;
Excess sole has exfoliated, wall separation has resolved quickly, frogs are improving greatly with regular use.

Amber, Thoroughbred mare;
Weak walls unable to hold shoes, flat soles, and weak digital cushions in late September, 2007;
Hooves showing excellent improvement by mid-November with exercise, use of hoof boots, and a natural diet;
Soles HAVE NOT been trimmed and are beginning to develop concavity.

Pinto Pony mare;
Hooves recovering from mild laminitic episode;
False sole was produced, then exfoliated;
Pony was perfectly sound throughout.

Draft-cross with unhealthy feet;
Trimmed to re-establish balance and allow the foot to begin functioning more efficiently while maintaining soundness.

Danny, Pinto Pony yearling (left); Ally, Paint mare (top right); and Pilgrim, Welsh-Paint cross gelding (bottom right);
