ACE Invites Community to Join in Annual Celebration of Winter Solstice
ACE (Association for Cultural Education) invites you and your family to help decorate a Winter Solstice tree with ornaments that reflect the multicultural spirit of the organization. This event will take place on Sunday, December 14, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Glen Ridge Train Station.
The evergreen tree is an ancient symbol marking the Winter Solstice. As a way to honor this, ACE would like to donate a tree to the community of Glen Ridge, to stand in the train station for everyone to enjoy over the upcoming holidays. Families are welcome to donate an ornament that reflects its own unique diversity or cultural heritage if they so wish. In addition, children will be invited to hand-make ornaments while at the party.
As a way to honor the overwhelming significance of light in Winter Solstice celebrations all over the world and over many centuries, everyone is also welcome to bring "holiday lights" from their own cultural traditions, such as Advent candles, Hanukah menorahs, Kwaanza candles, Diwali lamps, Chinese New Year lanterns, and so on.
We will also raffle off holiday candles to benefit kiva.org. Kiva is a non-profit organization that is fighting global poverty by allowing ordinary people to make small personal loans—of as little as $25—to entrepreneurs in developing countries.
Please bring some type of holiday refreshment to share with the group. We hope you can join us for this special gathering!
