The Fine Print:
The ratings as shown on Cross-tables.com on August 28 will determine placement in a division.  However, we will use your rating as of August 1 instead if you contact the director by August 27, 2008 with your request.  Please check in 30 minutes before your first event, and 15 minutes before subsequent events.  Players may buy drinks and snacks from the hotel during check-in and breaks.

PLEASE GET YOUR ENTRY IN BY 9 PM, AUGUST 26, 2008.   Entries and withdrawals afterwards incur a $20 late fee plus costs.  No entries after 11 AM, August 28, 2008.  No refunds for an event once it begins.  Rated players must be current National SCRABBLE® Association members.  Players can pay $20 dues directly to the NSA before the tournament.  Dues collected at the tournament are $25.  New players may wait until their 2nd tournament before joining the NSA.  We strongly advise new players to play in a local SCRABBLE® club before competing in a tournament.

The Red Lion Hotel - Portland - Convention Center 1021 NE Grand, Portland, OR  97232

For the fourth year, we contracted for our Labor Day Weekend tournament with this hotel.  It is conveniently located adjacent to the MAX line's Convention Center stop.  The Red Lion is offering an exceptionally good rate for overnight accommodations and will reimburse overnight guests for their MAX fares when they use the light rail for transportation from Portland International Airport.  The hotel has dispensed with parking charges for tournament participants who are not staying at the Red Lion.

We're offered a special rate of $75 per night plus tax, single or double occupancy.  The hotel will charge $10 per night for roll-aways, which are available for King rooms only.  To qualify for these special rates, players must reserve their rooms by Saturday, July 26, 2008, mentioning "PORTLAND SCRABBLE®".  Players can reserve their rooms at 800-343-1822.  The Red Lion's local number is 503-235-2100.

Parking in the hotel's lot is available to overnight guests at $8 per day.  There is no dedicated airport shuttle, but we recommend using Portland's MAX light rail service.  MAX has frequent departures directly from the main terminal, and it takes about 24 minutes to the Convention Center stop, adjacent to the hotel.  It currently costs $2.05 to take MAX between the Convention Center and the airport, but there is no charge for MAX service between the hotel and the rest of the downtown area.
