Haul
Here is the collection of items recovered by
all of the divers from a trip to several wrecks
off the Dry Tortugas.
|
 |
Haul -
Again
Can you find the items that moved? It was such
an impressive site I had to take two shots.
|
 |
Bell
Here "Eagle Eye Citelli" shows off
the auxiliary bell he recovered off the wreck of
the Rhein. I swam over the site where he picked
this up three or four times on the dive.
Sometimes you don't see what you are shooting
video of.

 |
Inside
Here Joe shows off the inside of the bell. The
clapper is still located inside.
|
 |
Bell -
Deck
Here the prized bell rests among some gear
used on the dive. There was an eye-bolt holding
the clapper inside that Joe tied his lift bag to.
When we pulled the bag out of the water, the iron
bolt broke loose and the bell almost fell back
into the ocean!

Bell -
Display
Here we proudly display the bell back at the
dock.

Group shot with the bell. Everyone gets in on
the action.

Bell -
Overload
OK, we get a little silly with the bell.

Finished
Here is the bell after being restored. You can
notice portions of the metal melted away.

Here is a collection of bottles that Mike
recovered from the Baja California.

Here is a collection of glass that I recovered
from the same wreck.

Same stuff, different angle.

Close
Here is a close up of my favorite bottles. One
is intact. One was broken when I found it. The
third I broke attempting to free it.
|
 |
Ampoule
A medicine ampoule Mike recovered from the
Baja. The ship was carrying general goods
including medical supplies during WWII.
|
 |
Porthole
- Scuttle
This is a porthole (actually scuttle) Mike
recovered from the Araby Maid.
|
 |
Porthole
This porthole Joe retrieved from the Rhein.
The steel siding from the wreck is still attached
to the back. It was lying loose among the debris.
|
 |
Porthole
- melted
The glass in this porthole is melted, evidence
of the intense heat of the fire set as the crew
of the Rhein set fire to the ship in an attempt
to scuttle it.

 |
Tile
Mike shows off a tile he recovered from the
Rhein.

We are not sure of the origin of the tile.
They were carried stacked on a shelf.
