The steel plate that made up the skin of this door has
corroded away, but the cross braces remain.

A large jewfish approximately 6 to 7 feet long fins
gently into the current on the main deck.

Radio Room
I believe that this is the radio room on the Wilkes.
Several pieces of equipment are still in their place.

5-Inch Gun Turret
This 5-inch twin turret sits on the starboard side of
the wreck.

6-Inch Gun Turret
This is one of four main 6-inch triple gun turrets on
the Wilkes. The two here on the rear deck actually overlap each other.
The forward one sits a little higher than the one behind it.

Here is the business end of the gun. These big guns were
used in shore bombardments and to sink enemy ships.

diver in the distance is returning from checking out the helicopter
port on the extreme aft end on the ship.
