- BAND CAMP PART TWO! Band camp is half over already. Everyone has done a great job so far. This week is going to be hotter and feel longer. Hang in there and keep pushing all the way to the end. The more productive this week is, the easier the next three months will be! We can do this!
- Spirit Week is this week. Hopefully you’re all wearing your crazy hats today. Don’t forget: Twin day on Tuesday; crazy hair on Wednesday, class color day on Thursday, and Black and Red day on Friday. (Hint – wear red shirts, not black shirts. Black is too hot!)
- You should have gotten a copy of the guard’s rehearsal schedule for this week. If necessary, go to the website and follow the link on left for details. We will stay at North Brandywine Middle School.
- Band BBQ Thursday 2-4pm! Woo hoo! Bring twister mats/spinners if you have them. Guard nap time right after BBQ. Bring towels/blankets to relax on.
- The next CPMC meeting will be held on Wednesday, 8/12 at 7pm at the Hess home. Parents, please attend if possible. We need your help to make this a successful year. See the website for directions and details.
- Guard shoes are $27.95. Your money is due before the end of band camp. Student account money can NOT be used for shoes. Checks made out to Final Touch (NOT CPMC). Give shoe money to Lisa in a SEALED envelope labeled with your name, the amount inside, and what it’s for. (Lisa Westfall; $27.95; Guard shoes)
- The Mom’s Pizza Voucher Fundraiser runs through Friday 8/14. Orders due no later than 8/14. Delivery date 8/19. Contact Coleen Beckershoff at 610.384.7231 or coleenbeckershoff@yahoo.com with questions. Proceeds from this fundraiser can be applied toward your band fee. If you lose your forms or need additional forms, they can be downloaded from the website.
- Parents and guardians, please plan to come to Parents’ Night on Wednesday 8/19. There will be an important informational meeting for parents from 6-8pm. At 8pm the students will demonstrate everything they accomplished during band camp. Come out, get informed, and support the kids. It’ll be fun.
- Final details for our last car wash of the year: A total of $270 was raised. Of that, $140 was put into student accounts and $130 went into the guard account. Good job everyone who participated. Steve Mayhue, thanks for coming out to help!
- We had some exploding drill books last week. Please make sure you’ve fixed any problems with them for this week. Thank you for making sure you HAD drill books though!
- On the website you can find: Pictures of band camp (click on “band camp” link on upper left), sketches of the new guard uniform, and a downloadable music file of the first song (link is on bottom right). Please download the music and learn it. You need to be able to sing it to yourself while you do the work!
- The annual $65 band fee is due no later than 9/16. You should have received a letter from CPMC telling you how much money you have in your CPMC student account, if anything, that can be put toward the band fee. If you didn’t get a letter, please see Lisa.
- Don’t forget that EACH guard member needs one roll of black and one roll of white 3M electrical tape. Do not buy cheap substitutes.
- You should also have gotten forms to fill out to order extra t-shirts and/or sweatshirts. The first t-shirt is free. Extras are not. Extras are optional.
- You should have a packet of information regarding ad sales for the program book for the competition hosted by us at CASH on 10/31/07. (Parents – please make plans to attend and help out!) This fundraiser goes a long way towards helping CPMC fund its’ portion of the band’s budget. We are NOT fully funded by the district and without your help with these fundraisers, we cannot pay the bills. Each member is asked to sell two ads. Please see packets for details….it’s not as hard as you might think. Ads are due no later than 9/16. (If you got a copy of these forms on Wed. 7/22, those forms are not fully accurate. Use the new forms.) If you need additional forms, they can be downloaded from the website.
- The color guard will be purchasing a full-page ad in the program book for the home show. We will collect $3 from each student and staff member to cover the $75 fee. Please turn your check or cash in to Lisa in a SEALED envelope labeled with your name, the amount inside, and what it’s for. Members will have an opportunity to help design the ad themselves. The money is due no later than Friday, 9/4.
- A heads up for planning purposes: You will have the opportunity to purchase a flesh-colored unitard to wear under your uniform to help you stay warm. (There is no left arm on the uniforms.) You are not required to buy one. Plenty of guards have bare skin and survive it just fine. If you want to buy one, the price will be between $30 and $40 depending on size. You’ll have three colors to choose from to best match your skin tone. We’ll collect money and order them in early September in order to have them by late September. (They’re made to order.)
- Hang in there, parents of 1st year members! This is the craziest time of the year for the band while we’re transforming from a rag-tag bunch of off-for-the-summer, sleepy bandos into an award-winning marching band ready for the first performances. There won’t always be this much paper coming home or this many requests for money. It can be overwhelming at first but it settles down into a fairly consistent routine pretty soon. You’ll get the hang of it. To get the hang of it even faster, come on out and get involved with the guard family. We work hard, but we have lots of fun too!
- HELP NEEDED FROM PARENTS!!!! Our fabric will be in soon and we need help turning it into flags. If you sew, great! But you don’t have to be able to sew to help. We need people who can cut fabric, hold it while someone else cuts it, iron seams and hems, etc.. The more help we get the faster our flags are born and the faster they translate into points for the band at competitions. Please contact Zulma Ball at zyball@yahoo.com or track her down at rehearsal. (She’s almost always here.)
- Our budget is tight and we need lots of stuff. Anyone have any connections to a hardware store where we might be able to buy white and black 3M electrical tape at a discount? We (and the drumline) need a ton of it in addition to what each member should have. In fact, we need a number of things from a hardware store. We’re also looking into buying some flamenco dance fans – the kind that flick open and closed easily and are about 20” wide. Anyone have any connections that might help us buy them cheaply? They could be previously used by a dance studio, for instance.
- Our next trip to the dance studio to work on parts of the show is Monday, 8/24. We will take school vans if available or car pool if not. If you haven’t yet turned in a permission slip for our dance studio trips, please see Lisa.
- Starting to remind you early that Saturday, 8/29 is a mandatory guard catch up day rehearsal from 9am to 4pm. MANDATORY! Really. No kidding.
- No more So You Think You Can Dance for a while. L
- www.cvillepmc.org is YOUR website! Please get in the habit of checking it out and using it as an informational resource. If you lose your Spin Zone, look online. Mrs. Harvey has been kind enough to add them to the website.
