During the years in Brevard County, Florida, I became increasingly active in community organizations - particularly in the civil rights, civil liberties, environmental, and community empowerment arenas. I also wrote an extensive number of op-ed pieces for the highly popular Today Newspaper, whose publisher would subsequently found USA Today. The Newspaper ran a special profile in 1970, including this photo of me atop the 120 meter high Apollo-Saturn Vehicle Assembly Building where I often watched the eagles ride the upward drafts along side the structure.
