A soft, noninvasive energy technology for today's stressed-out world.  It is a

*     Hands-on technique that comes out of Asia and most
recently from Japan by way of Hawaii.  Mrs. Hawayo
Takata, trained for several years both in Japan and then
at home on the Big Island, brought it to California in the
2nd half of the 20th century, and created 22 Master-Level
students who then took it out into the world and its local
      communities.

*     There are no religious or philosophical 'requirements'
or beliefs that you must have in order to benefit from a
Reiki session (or training, if you decide to acquire the
gift/ability for yourself).  It is like the 'Laying on of Hands'
       without the religious component.

*      If a client has an aversion to being touched, s/he can still
receive and absorb the Life Force Energy  when it is dir-
ected into the body from a short distance above it.  This is
also done when there is a cut, bruise, sensitive injury or
swelling.  Many Reiki practitioners use a massage table to
accommodate the client, so s/he can walk all the way
around, and reach all locations, head to toe, which need
some Life Force Energy renewing and refurbishing!

*     The body of the 'client' (receiving person) will 'drink in' the
       energy directly from the palms of the practitioner's hands;
the weak, sick or injured body part (or psyche) will absorb
precisely how much it knows it needs, so no vanity or ego
is engaged on the part of the facilitator.  You can never get
'too much' because the area can only hold so much...and
the same thing is true when we take care of our pets.
Their bodies are too small to absorb so much energy!  So,
       it's a self-regulating energy-digesting system!

*     The 'Rei-Ki' (Universal Life Force) Energy is out there in
the world; we are made of it and it is there in limitless
supply; therefore, our bodies are drinking in something
that is not foreign, and is completely compatible with us!

*      The energy will go where it is needed most, even if the
session is very short.  It will go towards helping both the
physical energy requirements and the mental or emotion-
al ones; it goes 'to the level needed'.  This means that it
is good for us even when we are not actually sick, but may
be just feeling tired, or sad.

*      Practitioners are functioning as 'the oil pipe delivering the
oil', so they are not 'donating' energy from their own store
of vitality.  Therefore, there is no reason for them to be
tired or drained as the result of giving a session.  They are
       just being the hollow reed...

*      Many hospitals are now training their nursing staff in the
basic technique, because Reiki has been known to help
strengthen the body before a procedure, speed the rate of
healing, and to help diminish pain, allowing some patients'
bodies to require less medication and to help them feel a
greater degree of peace of mind, even though they may
not survive an illness.  See "Reiki Energy Healing", co-
authored by Libby Barnett and Maggie Chambers.

At a later date I plan on having photos of 'The Elders' on this site to properly honor them: Dr. Mikao Usui, who resurrected this healing way for the modern world;  Chujiro Hayashi, who made sure it would survive Japan's upcoming involvement in what would become World War 2; and Mrs. Hawayo Takata, who brought Reiki to the U.S., from where it spread around the world.  If I can, I will obtain photos of 'my' two elders, Rev. Beth Gray, who is one of Takata-san's original 22 Master Teachers, and with whom I took Levels 1 and 2 in 1986; and Rev. Richard 'Rick' Hofmann, with whom I served a fascinating and indescribable 3-year apprenticeship, from 1992-95.  I will also wish to honor both of these powerful and integrity-full healing specialists.

Tuition guidelines and fees for private sessions:

Private Reiki sessions:  $60/hr., $15 each additional 1/4 hour.
Done fully clothed, soft and noninvasive.  Often clients fall
asleep or 'go somewhere else' as the body relaxes and
  receives restorative energy.

Reiki Instruction:
Level 1: $150, 10-4 PM over two consecutive days, frequently
scheduled on a weekend.  4 energy attunements are given: this is very
traditional and thorough.  You will receive a full grounding in the mind-
body information, a complete manual showing your 'family tree' of in-
structors, time to practice on a 'client', receive some Reiki yourself, and
a Level 1 Certificate suitable for framing.  There are no previous exper-
iential requirements.  Anyone over the age of 6 with a normal span of
attention can become a Reiki Energy Practitioner.

Level 2: $300, 10-4:00 PM over two consecutive days, frequently
scheduled on a weekend.  You must pre-qualify for this class by speaking
to me in advance and showing me your Journal of sessions done on
clients, friends or family.  There must be 45-50 notations to show me
that you are serious about becoming skilled.  You must have 3-6 months'
experience as a Level 1 practitioner.  Speak to me with any questions.

You'll learn to send a healing energy session over distance;  speak to
the 'inner person' during a session, and very likely get insights into the
cause and nature of the person's imbalance; and learn 3 ancient symbols
and their mantras, which you will use in many specific ways.  You will
learn how to increase the level of energy intensity when a client's weak-
ness, wound or imbalance requires it.

2 energy attunements are given: this is also considered very traditional
and thorough.  You will receive the full & complete 'family tree' of my
lineage of Reiki Master teachers all the way back to Dr. Usui, time to
practice on a 'client' and receive work, full instruction, and a Certificate
  suitable for framing.

Reiki 3/4:  Master Practitioner and Master Teacher's Apprenticeship:
A one-year period of study, split into two 6-month increments:

1st 6 months: one day a month, 10-5:00 PM, $175/month.  You will be
responsible for the cost of a group of study books.  The class syllabus is
extensive: please click on the Events link for a full description.  At the
end of the 6-month period you will receive the Level 3 Master Practi-
  tioner's attunement, and a Level 3 Certificate.

2nd 6 months: one day a month, 10-5:00 PM, $175/month.  You will be
responsible, as before, for your study books.  Again, the class syllabus
is extensive, and I suggest you click on the Events link for a full descrip-
  tion.

Graduation: the month following your 12th class.  At the end of the
second 6-month period, if I feel that you have satisfactorily grasped
and integrated the teachings, you will receive the Level 4 Master
Teacher's attunement, and your Master Certificate.  You will automat-
ically become a member of my school of graduates, the Reiki Collective.
