Public Transportation to my home:

R7 SEPTA train (Chestnut Hill East) from Center City Philadelphia:
Get off at the next-to-last stop, called Gravers Lane.  Walk
up the (many) steps to the street level, turn right, and walk
a block and a half to the traffic light at the intersection of
  Stenton Avenue & Gravers Lane.

My house is diagonally across the street on the left; see
the white car parked near the side entrance.  You can enter
through the fence there, or walk to the Gravers Lane gate
and come up the front walk.  The fence is 6 feet tall, wooden
stockade-style.  If you look up, you'll see the Tibetan Prayer
flags hanging from the 2nd floor porch!

SEPTA bus: the L bus.  It comes up Stenton Avenue from the
direction of Philadelphia (the city-part), and will stop right at
my corner.  Landmark, or warning: the traffic light just before
ours is Willow Grove Avenue--you're almost here!

Get off at Gravers Lane and be sure to tell the driver of
your intention, because they love to switch to the middle lane
since the next stop makes them turn left off Stenton.  If you're
not careful, they'll speed right by the house!  As you stand on
the sidewalk facing away from the city, you'll see the wooden
fence and the prayer flags flying on the 2nd floor porch!
Driving directions:

You're better off calling me or e-mailing me and telling me exactly where you're coming from.  You can always use Mapquest but I will probably know some accurate shortcuts.  Look at Eastern Montgomery County, Springfield Township, Wyndmoor.  We're literally right across the street from NW Phila-delphia, the section called Chestnut Hill.
Restaurants we recommend, and frequent!

Shundeez (Persian cuisine, and delicious), behind Borders at the top of the Hill, behind the bus stop, in the L-shaped building which houses various shops.  Maurice finally got his space open!  We like him and like to support this nice new addition.  Open for both lunch & dinner, with tables outside. BYOB, he is only feet away from the liquor store!

McNally's Tavern, across Germantown Avenue from Borders at the top of the hill, just before Rex Ave.  Great tavern atmosphere and good sandwiches.  The 'Schmitter' is not to be missed as long as you ignore cholesterol. (215) 247-9736.

Roller's Restaurant at the Flying Fish, 8142 Germantown Ave. at Hartwell Lane, across from the Ford dealer: No matter what you pick from the menu, guaranteed it will be delicious--I've been eating Paul Roller's food for 25 years! Eclectic and imaginative, lots of veggies, fruit & fish. Fabulous desserts!
(215) 242-1771. No credit cards are accepted, but checks are.

Cafette, 8136 Ardleigh Street, just 1 1/2 blocks from Roller's, 1 block off Germantown Ave. Another variety of 'imaginative and delicious', also owned by a friend of ours, Jan.  She presents home-style cooking, featuring great soups, salads, sandwiches, poultry, fish & vegetarian dishes.  Wonderful outdoor patio with wrought iron tables, chairs and large umbrellas!  Jan serves lunch right on through the afternoon.  We go here for our annual Valentine's Day dinner!  Daily specials.  Do bring your own booze as she does not serve: BYOB.  Call for reservations especially on weekends: (215) 242-4220.

Chestnut Grill & Sidewalk Cafe, in the Chestnut Hill Hotel, on Germantown Ave. at Southhampton Ave.  Our buddy Greg owns this one, great for hors d'oeuvres, soups and salads and a very decent lunch menu.  Very reasonable and good quantities... American Cuisine dinner too, and great fun if you're sitting out watching the walkers go by!  Full service bar.

Yu Hsiang, wonderful, reasonable Chinese food complete with gorgeous crystal chandelier and actual tablecloths!  Full menu of good food, down Germantown Avenue just across from the Mermaid Inn, our music connection on the Hill.  Right next to the intersection of Cresheim Valley Drive & Gmntn. Ave.  They also will deliver if your total is over $15. (215)

The Mermaid Inn, 1 short block off Germantown Ave. at the corner of Mermaid Lane & Winston Road. Sandwiches and limited menu but what you are coming here for is the very friendly, local atmosphere, very reasonable prices and a different slate of musicians almost every night of the week! Many of them are longstanding local artists. See Joanne Mekis or any of her good female bartenders. Website: www.themermaidinn.net
