BIBLIOGRAPHIC STYLE
All bibliographic entries should be placed into alphabetical order according to the author’s last name or the title of the encyclopedia. More than one entry by the same author, such as those by St. Francis de Sales, should be placed in alphabetical order as well by the title of the book. When alphabetizing, begin with the first full word after “The”—such as Encyclopedia in The Encyclopedia of Religion or Art in The Art of Loving God. Bibliographic entries should be typed single spaced within an entry and should be double spaced between separate entries. The second and following lines of a bibliographic entry should be INDENTED 5 LETTERS from the start of the first line. Please note that simply using the tab key will not move you over the correct number of spaces since Word is designed to move ½ letter space for each space bar hit and thus only 2 and a half letters for the tab key. It will be necessary for you to manually count over five full letters to start the second line. Each separate part of the entry is followed by a period. The section with the city of publication, publisher, year and pages used is separated by a comma except between the city and the publisher which is separated by a colon. Encyclopedias begin with name of the author, the title of the article in quotation marks, the title of the encyclopedia Italicized, followed by a comma and the volume number. Example: author's last name, first name. ” Spirituality,” The Encyclopedia of Religion, Vol. 14. New York: Thomas Gale, 2005, pp. .
When more than one book by the same author is used, it is permissible to leave a
blank space for the author space for the second and following entries. See the examples below. De Sales, Francis. The Art of Loving God.
Thy Will be Done, Letters to
Persons in the World, “ Be Then All When using Internet sources, start with the author’s last name and a period, Next comes the title of the article, italicized.
