East of Shirley
CD Release Concert Saturday October 11th "East of Shirley" is a 7-piece ensemble from central Massachusetts that plays an eclectical musical mix-from contemporary acoustic and folk selections to blues and country rock. East of Shirley's songs tell tales that are deeply personal and subtly political. The group performs both original compositions and covers by artists as diverse as Bruce Cockburn, Mike Smith, Steve Goodman, Danny OKeefe, Lowell George, Townes Van Zandt, John Martyn, and Patty Griffin. www.myspace.com/eastofshirley
"A Thousand Sarajevos" is a body of work that reflects both a personal journey and an evolving political consciousness. Songs of memory, desire, imagination, longing, and loss are contrasted with expressions of disillusionment and anger and, ultimately, hope. While steeped in the singer-songwriter tradition that has emerged and developed since the 60s, the album is contemporary and forward-looking in both its focus and its sound. Join us in an evening of celebration at: also featuring Toronto singer-songwriter Kimberly Boyce
