Calendar of this month's events >>
June 28: “What Do Muslims Believe?” Baraa Kahf, a Board member of CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations).
July 5: "Dissenters: the True Patriots," Jarrett Lovell, a criminology professor at Cal State Fullerton and peace activist, who has written a book entitled "Crimes of Dissent."
July 12: "Souls of Animals," Lee Marie Sanchez, Consulting Minister. The word "animal" comes from a Latin root that means soul. Many of us have experienced a soul connection with a an animal companion or with animals of the woods, the sea or sky. Our Seventh UU Principle tells us that we are all part of an interconnected web of existence. Come enjoy our exploration of this spirituality this morning.
July 19: Sandra Kirkpatrick will speak and show a Power Point presentation on the work of her organization, "Abolish Slavery."
July 26: Lee Marie Sanchez, Consulting Minister, "What is Religion for Us & Others?" Some have asked, even Unitarian Universalists, if we are a religion. Let's take a look at how the religious impulse has taken form for us and others in providing meaning, beauty, hope, inspiration, a beloved community and the attendant rituals of our lives. We hope you will be with us to celebrate this Sunday.

The new curriculum for the children began on June 7, 2009. One series, called "Holidays and Holy Days," explores the rites and celebrations of UU and other religious traditions. The other explores issues surrounding homelessness. We will also have a class on evolution. We have no doubt that our UU children will enjoy our program (see below for dates and topics).

Potluck for Progressives - Friday, June 26
Sue Reams and Frank Courser, of "Families to Amend California's Three Strikes," will deliver a presentation about the history of the "Three Strikes" law in California. Passed by voters in 1994, this law is an oppressive legal program that can result in life in prison for conviction of even minor felonies, often nonviolent-drug offenses. Hear an update on the current status of the law and efforts being made to change it by FACTS and other grass-roots organizations. This event is free and open to the general public. Potluck at 6:30 p.m.; program at 7:30. Please bring a food dish to share for the potluck. All are welcome! For more info, contact Duane at duaneroberts92804@yahoo.com.
Wednesday evenings at 7:30 - International Folk Dancing at the church! All dances are taught by Carol Maybrier, an excellent teacher. No partners needed; donation is $4. Beginners are welcome - first visit is free!

Unitarian Universalists choose to live without the need for a strict creed or doctrine. We accept diversity as a strength and seek to join in community with those of other backgrounds. We are seldom interested in sectarian disputes or speculations about an afterlife or the supernatural. UUs are willing to participate in the search for understanding, peace and justice for all in the here and now. We respect the earth and the awe-inspiring journey of life on this planet, and we seek to improve the state of humanity worldwide.
