Calendar of this month's events >>
October 25: Lee Marie Sanchez, Consulting Minister. "United Nations Sunday," is celebrated in many of our UU congregations around the world. We have had a long and close relationship with groups seeking world harmony, peace & social justice. You will enjoy hearing about the people and projects of UU-UNO, the Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office, this morning.
Nov. 1: Rabbi Phillip Posner, who resides in Mexico, will speak on "Character: the Path to the Other Side." Also, in commemoration of Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), we will have a traditional altar. Bring a picture of a beloved relative or friend who has departed. Rabbi Posner will ask us to name a hero whose character we admire.
Nov. 8: Veterans' Day, Lee Marie Sanchez. Veteran's Day reminds us of all of those, living and dead, who have served their country in the military or the reserves, and we will do that in our worship service today. We will also honor those who were able to make the choice to be conscientious objec-tors. As long as wars continue anywhere we are all war veterans and we shall ponder that together too.
Nov. 15: "My Trip to the Holy Land." Michael Eselun, a hospital chaplain and member of the Santa Monica UU Congregation, will share his reflections upon his recent trip to Jerusalem with a friend facing a grave medical crisis. He will discuss both the external journey and his internal journey through fear and unanswerable questions.
Nov. 22: Lee Marie Sanchez, "Gratitude" Gratitude allows the heart to stay open to love and hope. I am reminded of the words of Helen Keller, "No pessimist ever discovered the secret of the stars, or sailed an uncharted land or opened a new doorway for the human spirit."
