OPRYLAND, NASHVILLE

After taking an early retirement in 1996, we decided to rent an RV to see if we enjoyed the experience before committing to a purchase. We visited a local RV rental business and placed a deposit on a Class C unit that had a floor plan we liked. The owner said we could pick up the unit the day before our planned trip, at no additional charge. We picked up the RV as agreed and drove home and packed it in anticipation of getting an early start the next day. |
Everyone is ready to leave, however the RV won't start and the dealer isn't open for business yet. We contacted a local towing service and by the time they were able to determine that the unit had to be towed to a shop for service, we were able to reach the RV dealer. The dealer instructed the driver to tow the unit to their shop and bill them for all costs. The dealer quickly discovered the fuel pump, which was located inside the gas tank, needed replacement and offered us another unit or a full refund. His employees quickly prepared another unit and even helped transfer our clothes and food to the new RV. |
We're finally on the road, four hours later than planned. Shortly after entering the interstate we noticed a noise on the passenger side. At the first rest area, we discovered the TV antenna had become disconnected from the base and was dangling over the side of the RV, suspended by the cable. Since we had no way of remounting the antenna to the base and there was no connector in the exposed cable, wire cutters quickly resolved this problem. |
We also quickly discovered why RV's are frequently called "land yachts" and had to stop to buy some Dramanine. Also this RV had a four-barrel carburetor and a standard pickup truck sized gas tank that required refilling every couple of hours. |

Opryland KOA Kampground Nashville, Tennessee. One of the nicer KOA’s we have stayed at. Convenient to the expressway, the Opryland Complex and the Nashville tours can be boarded here. During our stay, several “Breakfast with the Stars” were hosted for tour bus groups and campers were allowed to join in.

Opryland USA Nashville's Southern style hospitality and love of music was very evident throughout the theme park and this day was very enjoyable. Unfortunately, Opryland USA is no longer in business. |
