CENTRAL FLORIDA

February 1998

Seeking a break from the Buffalo winter and an early dose of spring, we headed for central Florida and Walt Disney World. Never having traveled thru the West Virginia mountains in the winter, we chose a route further to the west.

Oak Creek CampgroundWalton, Kentucky. Convenient to the interstate and a Flying J, temporary sites are open and spacious.

Cartersville KOACartersville, Georgia. Large open sites with plenty of room to excerise the pets.

Bryn Mawr Ocean ResortSt. Augustine, Florida. A beautiful campground on the beach, as you would expect the sites are narrow, did not check out the amenities because we spent both days on one of the nicest beaches we have visited. The wide flat sandy beach was the perfect place to work out the kinks from three days of travel and enjoy the warm sunshine.

On day five we traveled to Cypress Gardens Winter Haven, Florida. Just as beautiful as I remembered it was in the 50’s. On this day the LP circuit of the refrigerator began to malfunction. The orifice had become partially blocked by a small piece of debris in the piping system. We now carry denatured alcohol to clean the orifice; luckily it has not been needed.

Kissimmee KOAKissimmee, Florida. We chose this campground because they offered a free shuttle to the local theme parks. However the shuttle only travels to selected parks on a given day and our choice was not available. Kissimmee had experienced heavy rains prior to our visit and unbelievably the first site they assigned to us was flooded with six inches of water. This campground location is now a Sam’s Club; maybe other campers had similar experiences.

Sea WorldOrlando, Florida. The park has an interesting mix of live animal displays, shows and rides. Even though we did not try any of the rides, it still took a full day to experience the rest of the park. Sea World is our favorite park with live animals.

Fort Wilderness Campground ResortWalt Disney World, Florida. Provides easy access to all the Disney attractions via the Disney transportation system. The sites are large and very well maintained. The premium paid for this resort is worth it if you are planning to visit multiple Disney attractions.

Walt Disney WorldFlorida. Everyone owes it to them self to visit the Disney attractions at least once. The Magic Kingdom truly is a magical place, something for everyone.

EPCOTFlorida. We especially enjoyed the 3D show "Honey I Shrank the Audience" and the Mexico Pavilion.

MGM StudiosFlorida. You must experience the Tower of Terror and the Indiana Jones Spectacular.

Downtown DisneyFlorida. The Comedy Warehouse provided an enjoyable break.

There is so much to see and do at Disney World that you will need another vacation to recover, our four days were full from sunrise to midnight and there still are many attractions left to experience.

Day eleven, time to start heading home. Today we drove to the Florida state line; we are not quite ready to leave the Sunshine State yet.

Jennings Outdoor Resort CampgroundJennings, Florida. Pleasant campground with large lakeside sites.

Lookout Mountain KOARinggold, Georgia. Sites are tree lined and narrow.

Oak Creek CampgroundWalton, Kentucky.
