Each vocalist gets a half hour with the pianist to do as they choose.  Some sing songs they already know and simply want feedback.  Some use the time to learn new songs, work on finding keys, to sing different tempos and rhythms, etc.  It's entirely up to the singer.  Each singer pays $27;  $25 to the pianist and $2.00 to bann -- to cover such costs as piano tuning, use of books and sound equipment,  copying, etc.

 

Most sing jazz standards and blues and occasionally, but rarely, other genres.  Most vocalists bring charts.  Sometimes people sing songs they don't have charts for.

 

Usually, the pianist accompanies no more than seven vocalists.  The general rule is "first come, first served";  in other words, we sing in the order of arrival.  If "too many" show up, some listen a while and then leave.

 

"Wed Nites" are every Wednesday night and begin at 9:00

 

"Tues Nites" are every other Tuesday night and begin at 8:30
