Happy New Year!
Tonight we're off to the Duck Drop in our hometown of Havre de Grace. (Our town is known for its famous decoy museum and decoy shows, so we drop a lighted duck instead of a ball for New Year's.) This is our first year to go. I'm looking forward to the accompanying fireworks display.
Hope your own New Year celebration is a happy one!

Duck drop? Is that a joke?

I know it sounds like a joke, but it isn't.
From the Record (our local newspaper), "this year, Havre de Grace residents will see a flaming Mallard duck descending the 102-foot Susquehanna Hose Company [fire truck] ladder. ... The duck will descend the pole in a blaze of fire. ... Fireworks Productions, which sets off the fireworks after the Duck Drop, will wire the back of the duck with eight charges to make the duck look like it's on fire."
James, you'll just have to see it yourself next year! It really is a neat tradition. The fireworks were impressive too. Havre de Grace does a lot for its residents.
