Netflix

Doris and I are now Netflix subscribers. Having to line up a babysitter now makes it more difficult to get to the movies, so I felt we had to do something. Pay-per-view was good for a while, but the showtimes were often inconvenient. With movies showing up in the mail, I think it will give us more incentive to watch them regularly.

I'm embarrassed to say that the first movie in our queue is Click. (Well, at least Christopher Walken is in it.)

  • You really need a Tivo-like device. We have the PVR feature on our Satellite receivers so pay-per-view or movies or sports or shows on TV... just record and forget. So anytime were watching anything on TV (recorded or live) we can easily pause to deal with things as needed.

  • I'm not sold on the Tivo thing. I don't want to pay money for more boxes, basically. We have a DVD recorder now, and we record pay-per-view movies when we watch them, but we're just not likely to record TV shows.

If Alayna's crying, I turn on closed captioning on the TV so we can "hear" the show (usually only important for Law and Order:CI or SVU which has heavy dialog).

  • Netflix brings great joy to my life... I live out in the southwestern New Mexico desert, I don't have satellite or cable, and the nearest video store is 15 miles away. I spend a lot less on the Netflix 3-at-a-time plan than I would on two trips into town to rent movies (considering gas and all that)
