Our History and Beliefs

Bethel is a member of the United Church of Christ (UCC). Additional information about the UCC can be found on http://www.ucc.org.

The membership of Bethel reflects a broad range of theological positions and Christian beliefs; however, it is important to note that our unity is rooted in Christ, not in our positions or beliefs. We accept the Bible as authoritative for our living, allowing for freedom of conscience in its interpretation and application. We are ecumenically minded and congregationally governed. In our lives together and through our programs we seek to be faithful disciples of Christ who joyfully bear witness to God's love, mercy, and justice in this world. We of Bethel Church believe that wherever there are people without the Gospel, wherever there are people in need, wherever there is injustice, strife, hatred and greed -- there the church of Christ is called to bear witness, to serve, to reconcile and to make whole. All members of Bethel are ministers.

Our History: Bethel Church was organized in 1941 as a part of the Evangelical and Reformed Church. In 1957 the national Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Church founded one "united and uniting" church - the United Church of Christ. Rooted in tradition and progressive in thinking, Bethel is a community church that welcomes people from diverse denominational, cultural, and racial backgrounds.
