About Us - General Information              

                Congregation Beth Hamedrosh is a vibrant Orthodox synagogue located in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, just outside the City of Philadelphia.  Founded in 1960, CBH served the Jewish community for over 40 years from its location in the Overbrook Park section of Philadelphia.  In June 2007, the shul moved to its new campus at the intersection of Haverford and Manoa Roads in Wynnewood, Lower Merion Township.

CBH is a truly diverse community of approximately 100 families who come from varied backgrounds and levels of observance.  We are bound together by our common desire to grow in our spiritual lives, and we welcome all Jews who share this desire.  Our synagogue is known for its warm, accepting and supportive environment.

               We are led by Rabbi Shlomo Caplan, who has provided instruction, inspiration and guidance to our synagogue for over 32 years.  Rabbi Tuvia Goldstein is the director of Yisrael Chai, our outreach to the larger Jewish community.

               Rabbi Caplan has written that “although a synagogue is essentially a House of Prayer, a Beis Haknesses is really much more.  It means a House of Gathering—a place where people come together to pray, to learn, to identify and socialize.  It should serve as a vibrant microcosm of the Jewish community – meeting all its needs, yet still recognizing the individuality of each person.  With a clear vision of our responsibility and mandate as an Orthodox institution, we will reach out to our Jewish brothers and sisters and open our doors to all who come to learn and grow in Torah.  In this manner, we hope to turn our synagogue into a true Beis Haknesses.”
