Participating in the grant selection process at the United States Institute of Peace, evaluating proposals,
identifying and recruiting panelists to serve on review panels, and shepherding proposals through the review process.
Editing
Helping social scientists for whom English is a second language to prepare their work for English publication.
Topics include military budgets in Chile, interfaith reconciliation in Bosnia-Herzegovina, labor relations in the
Amazon, squatter settlements in Algeria.
Field Research
Research on the political censorship of the press in Brazil. Interviewing journalists in the mainstream and
alternative press and members of the former military government and federal police. Extensive documentary research
in the archives of published newspapers and censored publications.
Comparative research on community organizing, social movements and popular religion in Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil.
