We are compulsive knitters who want to make
a difference in a child’s life.
We both have pursued various volunteer activities
over the years.
We have been "volunteer participants" in
Mongolia with the non-profit organization, Cultural Restoration Tourism Project (CRTP).
With CRTP we were rebuilding a 16th century
culturally significant building located 8 hours outside of Ulaan Baatar. ( For more information about CRTP, please see our
links page.)
From our
work in Mongolia, we are enamored with the peace and fortitude of the Mongolians we have met.
At the same time we understand the harsh
realities that face this culture. They are still primarily a nomadic culture. There are few opportunities available to them.
By our standards, most Mongolians are extremely poor and live in harsh conditions
that we can only imagine.
Mongolia is not in the news much and comparatively,
receives little attention from the outside world. We feel it is important to provide warmth to those less fortunate than ourselves.
We hope to do so by combining our passions for
knitting, volunteerism and Mongolia by creating and shipping Magic Mittens and Mufflers to Mongolian children.
In November 2005, we both traveled to Nepal with CRTP where we are restoring a culturally significant building.
We will also be sending donations to the small village of Chiarro and the neighboring Tibetan Refugee camp. For more
information about our Nepal project, go to the Nepal page.
You can make a difference. You can make magic!
