Year End
012.JPG
I am very grateful to my sisters, Joyce and Cindy, who came down and did the year end reports and filings for Midway.  They are both pros and it really makes a difference when you know what you are doing at something.

We have really been blessed with improving attendance and visitors at each of our services.  The Lord does hear us.

A Poem for Preachers

The Apology

Think me not unkind and rude,

That I walk alone in grove and glen;

I go to the god of the wood

To fetch his word to men.

Tax not my sloth that I

Fold my arms beside the brook;

Each cloud that floated in the sky

Writes a letter in my book.

Chide me not, laborious band,

For the idle flowers I brought;

Every aster in my hand

Goes home loaded with a thought.

There was never mystery,

But 'tis figured in the flowers,

Was never secret history,

But birds tell it in the bowers.

One harvest from thy field

Homeward brought the oxen strong;

A second crop thine acres yield,

Which I gather in a song.

Become a specialist

I listened to an audio recording of a book written over a hundred years ago, and the author is telling how to have better days.  The chapter I listened to dealt with reading and how we should read at least 90 minutes of good literature every day.  After reading, he says that at least 45 minutes then should be spent thinking about what we have read. His suggestion was that we pick out one author or one theme and become a specialist in that field.  Ralph Waldo Emerson would remark that a book is good for only one thing and that is to inspire.  So as we continue on our journey let me encourage you to read inspiring words every day.

The Patience of Paul

We had frost and ice this morning and the coldest night of the season.  It is to warm back into the seventies by tomorrow.  I appreciate Paul’s patience as he awaited the Lord to act in the jail at Caesarea.  For two years he waited, apparently not getting discouraged or stressed knowing that it was all in the Lord’s hands.  I am often too impatient and become discouraged when things do not happen as fast as I want them to.

Wednesday Bible Study

We had visitors from North Carolina, West Virginia, and Indiana at class tonight.  It is an encouragement to have northern visitors this time of year in Florida and it says something about the people who go to midweek Bible study when on vacation.

The discussion items are to make you think.  I have heard each of these replies concerning the two issues that so separate us.  I am looking for replies that you have heard.

A New Time

The election of Barak Obama is a great statement of the people of the United States of America.  Whether we voted for him or even currently support him, we should all take pride that we as a people could come to this point in so short a period of time.  In my life I have prayed for and supported George C. Wallace and am now praying for and supporting Barak Obama. I do not feel I have changed that much but my country has.  It has never black and white to me, but who was the man for the time, and I think Barak Obama is the man for the time.

But to face the seriousness of the problems we have today, one man can do very little, but all men doing a little will change the direction of this world.  Our challenge is for each of us to do something.  President Obama has more than once made the statement, "This is not about me, but about the American people."  And that is all of us.  No one has an excuse not to serve today.  We are all needed to serve and may God bless us as we do.

I am so thankful for our new doors.  The couple that financed these much needed additions choose to remain anonymous; but we are very grateful005.JPG

A Change in Leadership

I have watched a lot of the inauguration events of the day and there is most definitely a change a happening.  May God bless us in these days and may we each do our part to make this a better world.

Site Update
We have updated several areas of this site today.  We usually make monthly updates and hope to improve on that.  We are reopening this journal which we have not published on the web in a couple of years.

Renewing public journal

The Obama era begins tomorrow.  I firmly believe this is a time for opportunity and challenge.  It is the opportunity to let God's word run freely in our nation of need.  It is the challenge for each of us to open the doors to allow gospel message to be proclaimed throughout our communities.  Mission is important but let us reach our neighbor.  How are you going to reach someone else's neighbor if you cannot your own?
