“God
Doesn’t Choose Qualified People; He Qualifies the People He
Chooses” This is a quote I recently received in an email. It summarizes in one line all the service I have ever been privileged to do in my life so far. There is one other quote that completes my story, one we say at every single Mass: “Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed.” These words are both humbling and empowering. I sat in this Church, for the better part of ten years unnoticed and that’s ok, it’s not a judgment, just a fact. It wasn’t until the Holy Spirit really hit me up side the head to get off my pew and serve the Lord that I was given the grace, courage and privilege to do so. That’s when my life changed. I do not have the time or space to give a complete account of the ways that God has Blessed me, if you ever want to talk, I would be happy to. What I do want to get across is that I said the very thing some of you have said to me: “I’m not worthy!” And you know what – YOU ARE RIGHT, YOU’RE NOT and neither am I. I wasn’t four years ago when I started being a Lector, and I am certainly not now. The difference is I now know, I’ve been called to be a Lector, and a Catechist, called to be an Extraordinary Minister and finally, called to be a Mass Coordinator. None of these things did I set out to do or intend to do four years ago or even a year ago. Gees, In fact, I couldn’t have told you the most basic aspects of our Faith four years ago. I will tell you that our Parish is in serious need of more help in many areas of ministry. The most pressing need at the 5:30pm Mass is for Extraordinary Ministers. Please do not tell yourself that you are not worthy, and dismiss it out of hand, all I ask is that you take it to the Lord in prayer, the Holy Spirit will do the rest. You will be pulled in that direction if it is HIS Will. I would be honored to share with you some of the tremendous graces He shares with me on a weekly basis. You will never be worthy, But You May Be Called, just like me. |
