Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is normally celebrated during a regular
scheduled Mass. After calling the parish office for arrangements,
parents are scheduled for an interview at that time. Older
children Baptisms are arranged through the Religious Education Office.
Adult Baptisms and instructions in the Faith are part of the Rite of
Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). |

First
Communion and First Reconciliation
Children and parents take part in a preparation program before these
Sacraments. Formal preparation for First Eucharist and First
Reconciliation is a two-year process,
usually culminating in reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation in
the winter and First Eucharist in May of their 2nd grade school
year. Children need to be enrolled in the Parish Religious
Education, have religious education as part of their home school
program or have attended Catholic school their 1st grade year.
All children need to be enrolled in the Parish Religious Education
program their 2nd grade year. Children starting after 1st grade
may need special instruction. A recent copy of the candidate's
baptismal certificate is required. Contact the Religious Education Office for
more information. |

Confirmation
Preparation for Confirmation is a two-year
process, which begins in the 10th grade. All young adults
need to be enrolled in the Parish Religious Education program the full two years. Reception of
the Sacrament usually occurs in the Spring of 11th grade.
Candidates will participate in a retreat and community service
work. A recent copy of the candidate's baptismal certificate is
required. Sponsors for
Confirmation must be 16 years of age or older, Catholic, and
have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. If the sponsor does
not belong to Holy Name of Mary, a letter is needed from their parish
stating that he/she is an active and practicing Catholic. |

|
Marriage
Couples wishing to initiate this process should make an appointment
with Father McNally or Deacon Ray. They should allow at least 6 months preparation period for this
Sacrament. Wedding dates cannot be scheduled until this process
has been initiated. A pre-marriage
instruction program is
required. Please contact our priest or deacon to make an
appointment. |

|
Annointing
of the Sick
Please contact the parish office so that a visit can be arranged as
soon as possible. Anyone who is sick or homebound may make

Catholics
who have experienced Divorce
There is much misunderstanding about the status of Catholics who have
experienced divorce. At Holy Name of Mary, we want to assist such
Catholics to clarify or, if necessary, resolve their relationship with
the Church.
Catholics who are divorced, but not remarried, are in good standing
with the Church. There is nothing to prevent them from receiving
the Sacraments or participating fully in the life of the parish.
This is true regardless of their status during their marriage. A
Catholic who was married out of the Church is no longer
excommunicated. All that is necessary is to receive the Sacrament
of Penance and everything can be resolved.
Catholics who have married again, without the blessing of the Church,
may be able to rectify their situation through the annulment
process. Members of the Pastoral Staff at Holy Name of Mary will
assist them with this. It is not nearly as difficult as it once
was. The Tribunal of the Diocese of Richmond is very pastorally
oriented and will assist to the fullest extent possible. There
are no fees associated with the annulment process in the Diocese of
Richmond.
If you have experienced divorce and have any questions or concerns,
please contact a member of the Pastoral Staff. We will be happy
to talk with you and assist in any way we can. |
