Literacy Volunteers of Washington County assists adults interested in improving their literacy skills through free programs based on a participant's individual goals. Services include adult basic literacy, English for speakers of other languages, citizenship preparation, workforce literacy, and GED or external diploma preparation.  Standardized assessments at intake and periodically thereafter inform the planning process, and participants work with staff and trained instructional volunteers to create and revise their literacy plans.  Modes of instruction include tutoring, small group instruction, and a technology lab with research based software on ten participant computers.  Veteran educators offer their time and experience to train volunteer tutors and small group facilitators.
