Welcome to Nolan P. Patouillet, Our New Youth Director
We welcome to our congregation NOLAN P. PATOUILLET as our new Youth Director. Nolan is a graduate of Geneva College with a Student Ministries Major. His home congregation is the Hampton Presbyterian Church in Gibsonia. Nolan last served as The Pittsburgh Projects Leaders-in-Training Teacher and still has some commitment with them through the month of February which he will honor with our blessing. He has also served as a Youth-Works! Site Director. YouthWorks! conducts work camps and work camp programming around the country. He managed a site with over 70 youth and adults each week and supervised a staff of three. Nolan is also very active with the New Wilmington Missionary Conference serving on their summer service team to Siberia in the summer of 2006. And he has other experience in youth ministry. Nolan comes highly recommended by leaders associated with the NWMC and other youth directors.

The Team was very impressed and believes that he is Called into our ministry. Nolan joins us at an exciting time. CPCBA has partnered with Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church in youth ministry. He will be developing the youth ministries at both congregations with a goal of cooperative programs for these two congregations within the same school district. Because of financial considerations in our giving, Nolan will be serving one-half time for CPCBA and one-quarter time for MNPC. However, the goal is joint program, sharing of resources and building and nurturing the youth of our community.
Nolan is married to Jessie who is a youth director at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church (Aliquippa) Church.

Weekly Magazine - February 7, 2009
from Sunday's bulletin

NEW YOUTH DIRECTOR
Nolan Patouillet joins us in worship this Sunday, February 7. The Youth Sub- Committee will host a Fellowship Hour in his honor following the service. Please come and welcome him!

SOUPER BOWL OF CARING
The Souper Bowl of Caring is a way for us to directly engage our church in the fight against hunger and poverty. A special collection will be taken after the service on Sunday, February 7. The proceeds will go directly to help support our local Meals on Wheels Program, which has recently had a substantial decrease in food donations. Your generosity and support can make a difference right here in our local community. Look for the folks with the soup pots!

LITURGICAL COLOR
We are now in the church season which continues the theme established on Epiphany Day: the spread of the Good News of Christ from its source in the Jewish community to all nations on earth. The Lectionary therefore explores the mission of the church in the world. The season can be called the "Time of the Church." The traditional liturgical color, green, is the color of growth.

LENTEN THEME: PRACTICING OUR FAITH
Practicing faith is not something we think about often, nor maybe do, at least not like practicing the piano or practicing gymnastics. However, without involving ourselves in activities of faith, our faith will not grow and develop. Over the Sundays in Lent will be studying some of the ancient practices of faith, ancient disciplines of Prayer, Stewardship, Sabbath keeping, Forgiveness and Hospitality. Beginning on February 21, we first look at Prayer.
OUR LENTEN JOURNEY begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17. We will gather at the church at 6PM for a meal together and then move to the sanctuary for worship. On March 3 and 17 we will also gather at the church for a meal at 6PM, and then participate in a Lenten activity for the whole family. Save the dates on your calendars, February 17, March 3 & 17 and participate in these Lenten journey events.

LENTEN SUPPERS
Mark your calendars, join CPCBA church family on the following three Wednesdays during Lent: February 17 - Ash Wednesday - supper and worship; March 3 - supper and program; and March 17 - supper and program. Reservation cards will be in the church bulletin beginning in February or contact Beth Joyce at 12-635-6151 or bhjhome@msn.com. All ages are welcome!

PASTORAL CARE NEEDS
For pastoral care needs and concerns, please contact the interim pastor or Deacon Lee Dillon at 724-876-0191.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
The adult class for February 7 and 14 will be appropriately focused on “Love and Marriage”. Not just for married couples, the classes will address concerns about human relationships that are relevant to us all. The Rev. Terry Mann, will be the speaker both Sundays. The adult class meets in the conference room - all are welcome to attend.

BIBLE SUNDAY
3rd and 4th graders will be presented with Bibles during the worship service on February 28. Following the service, the students and their families will be served a luncheon in Fellowship Hall and a presentation on Bible Study. Put these words of mine in your heart and soul… Teach them to your children… Deuteronomy 11:18-19

PARENTS OF PRE-K AND ELEMENTARY CHILDREN
If you are looking for activities that are fun for children and help them understand a little more about the season of Lent look at the following website. It will give you ideas that address growth in faith, prayer, mission, resurrection, etc. Log onto www.thrivent.com/magazine/winter10/livingwell.html.

USHER VOLUNTEERS
The church is in need of usher volunteers for this year! We follow a light schedule and only ask your commitment to serve every 6 weeks (substitutes are available if there is a conflict on the date scheduled). Ushering is a good way to meet and greet members and visitors and to serve the church at the same time. If you can help contact Tim Miller at 412-318-4781 or tmiller1502@comcast.net.

PRAYER AND BIBLE STUDY GROUP
The group will meet this upcoming Wednesday, February 10 for study and fellowship. The lectionary passages for the week are: Exod. 34:29-35; Ps. 99; 2 Cor. 3:12-4:2; Luke 9:28-43. All CPCBA members and friends are welcome!

SANCTUARY FLOWERS
There are many Sundays available for flowers to be placed at the front of the Sanctuary. Flowers can be donated in memory or in honor of a special person or people in your life or simply to the glory of God. These beautiful arrangements, created by the CPCBA Flower Committee are $40 a vase. Flowers can be taken by the family or requested to be given to a church shut-in. Call the office (412-766-1233) today to reserve a date!
