Member Spotlights at Community Presbyterian Church |
Kristin Dillon
|
Kristin Dillon is one of the active, young mothers here at CPCBA. A member of the church for the past three years, she is currently an elder and chair of the Worship Committee. She has also been a member of the Fellowship and Evangelism committee and hopes to return to that committee at some point, but at the moment she has plenty to do with her almost three year old son, Andy and her five month old daughter, Miranda. Not to mention her husband of seven years, Dwight Chrvala, two under appreciated cats, and part-time freelance writing work.
Kristin grew up in Oil City and now lives in on Norwood Avenue in Avalon Heights with her family. She has a B.S. in Journalism from Ohio University and is currently a full time mom and a part time freelance marketing/promotional/advertising writer. She has worked at several companies around Pittsburgh as a writer or editor.
"My grandparents are lifelong, devout, compassionate Christians," Kristin says, citing them as great influences for her active life at CPCBA. "They have done daily devotions together for as long as I can remember. Also, being a parent has made it more imperative than ever for me to try to be a good person and role model, and being a Christian definitely helps me strive for that." CPCBA inspires Kristin through the great sermons and warm, caring, diverse, smart congregation. Her favorite church activities include "good, old fashioned" Sunday worship and, of course, the pot luck suppers! And a favorite hymn is "Theyll Know we are Christians by our Love."
Kristin has many interests outside of her church life and enjoys tennis, hiking, eating, and travelling, Bruges, Belgium having been a favorite destination. She and her husband Dwight have played together in a tennis league for several years and she participates in a non-denominational bible study. Her musical tastes range from Steely Dan to Squeeze to REM. The same diversity can be found in her favorite movies, ranging from Rushmore to Sense and Sensibility and from Braveheart to the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals. As you might expect from a writer, Kristin also enjoys reading and some of her favorites are Operating Instructions by Anne Lamott, A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, Beloved by Toni Morrison, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin.
And finally, lets conclude with Kristins favorite Bible passage: Matthew 5:16: Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven.
