60 Year Celebration Planned!

2008 marks the anniversary of the formation of Volunteer Fire Protection Districts in the area. Forreston, German Valley and Polo Fire Protection Districts were all formed in 1948. Shannon District was formed in 1946, with Leaf River in 1951, Mt. Morris 1953, and Byron 1958. Forreston Fire and Ambulance Auxiliary is hosting an Open House on Sat., Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to commemorate this 60 year anniversary. The public is invited to attend. There will be historical displays along with fire safety and prevention. FHN will perform blood pressure and cholesterol screenings at no cost. Glucose screening will also be done but requires a five hour fast prior to the test. Cookies, lemonade and coffee will be served beginning at 9 a.m. with the 60th Anniversary cake cutting at 11 a.m. Bring the kids to learn first hand about fire safety in the Fire Safe House where they will experience a simulated smoke filled room. A car extrication demonstration is planned for 2 p.m. A REACT helicoper landing is also planned. If you would like to participate by displaying any memorabilia, equipment or items centered around fire fighting, please call the fire station at 938-2345 and leave a message. This event is held in conjunction with Forreston's Day In The Park.
