Women’s Retreat – 2007
On October 7-9, 2007, the 11th
Annual Women’s Retreat was held at Potomac Park Camp and Retreat Center in Falling Waters, West Virginia. The theme
of the retreat was “We are Christian Women that are Striving for Excellence through Godly principles, Philippians 3:8-13. The President of the Women’s Committee, First Lady Wanda Minter, and her committee
members organized an exciting and inspirational retreat. First Lady Minter noted
in her remarks for the Women’s Day Bulletin, “To be the Christian woman at of excellence, we must evaluate ourselves
through God’s Word, and ask, “Is my heart motivated by a “just
enough” or “it don’t take all that” attitude when it comes to living for Jesus?” This is in concert with the theme. The speakers were inspiring. Rev. Connie Gore, of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Washington, DC; gave a mini sermon
on Sunday evening and a workshop on Monday titled “Moving Pass the guilt
and shame of Sin That Hounds in Your Heart,” Rev. Dr. I. Maxine Robinson,
spoke to us on “ How to Forgive in Your heart While your Mind Still Remembers.”
Pastor Gladys B. Bates, Arc of New Beginnings Ministries, International, Largo,
MD gave a workshop on “Learning ways to Seek Joy and happiness God Indented for your Life.” Minister Fannie Robinson. First Rock Baptist Church,
gave the closing sermon and benediction. There were approximately 53 women in attendance including 10 new participants and a few men as well, Churches
represented were St. John Freewill, Grace Memorial, Ebenezer A.M.E., Fort Washington, Beulah Baptist and Pilgrim Rest Baptist
Church, We were highly encouraged about the three youth that attended this year. Sister Adjone Moten, Cheriba Hudson, Vashti Minter and Lavon Davis all added significantly
to making this retreat a success.

Mens' Conference 2007
King, Warrior, Mintor, Friend
The 2007
Men’s Conference was an experience like no other. Once again, the entire Skycroft Retreat and Conference was reserved
as more than a dozen churches converged on the mountain top in Middleton, Maryland. The
time of worship, preaching and teaching was a blessing to all of the attendances. The evening message were brought by First Rock’s own
Minister Lazarus Thicken and Dr. Decker H. Tapscott of Faith Christian Church in Warrenton, Virginia. Pastor Darin Poullard of Fort Washington Baptist Church
conducted a special afternoon workshop. The two sunrise services were preached
by Minister Ted Jones of First Rock, and Rev. Tyrone Petty from Antioch
Baptist Church of Upper Marlboro. First Rock’s own Rev. Dr. Roger Lovett brought the closing message. The men broke into small groups and attended classes taught by Pastor Lawrence Barbour, Dr. Charles Phillips,
Pastor Harold Dugger, Pastor Jerome Bell, Rev. Albert Montgomery, and of course, our own Pastor Anthony L. Minter. These six
facilitators taught from the book by Rev. Stu Webster, entitled “The Four Pillars of a Man’s Heart.” Saturday afternoon featured a cookout with music by special guest, “Sounds of
Praise”.
The men were challenged to walk worthy of their calling, charged to come down
from the mountain better men, to be more committed to the Word of God and to assume their proper places in their homes, Churches
and communities. In the seminars, they were challenged to learn about and develop
the four pillars: within each man is an inner King, Warrior, Mentor
and friend. Several men came forward to give their lives to Christ, or to re-dedicate
their lives; among them, several young men. The youth were led by Minister Jerry Catoe, Minister Derrell Sheelor and Brother Mike Thomas. The young men, the Proteges were taken through a regimen of studies tailored to the challenges faced by
young Christian men in an un-Christian world. They also engaged in sports and
group discussions about the issues facing young men today. From the opening message
Thursday evening, to the closing message, this year’s event was truly a blessing. The men are already looking forward
to 2008, when they expect to again receive the blessing from the Lord. Make plans
to join the Men on the mountaintop next year.
