The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act went into effect as of February 10, 2009. Any products
for children 12 and under must contain no more than 600 ppm (parts per million) lead content. Any items found that are
over 600 ppm are considered toxic waste, and MUST be thrown away. Items are not allowed to be sold or donated.
Back On The Rack has taken this matter very seriously, and we have been removing all items in the store
that we have found do not comply with the CPSIA, even if they are on consigment. Legally, the "toxic" items must be
disposed of and we cannot return them to any of our consigners.
The CPSIA isn't just for kids' resale stores. It also affects YOU. This new law includes ANTHING
that is sold or donated for children under 12. You are not allowed to sell or donate anything unless you know for CERTAIN
that it contains less than 600 ppm lead. This includes resale, garage sales, Ebay, Craigslist, Freecycle, donations
to Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc...
