November
We went on the chained dog program and came across a lot of super sad stuff. We made a lot of animals warm and very happy with rawhides and big bowls of food!
We will revisit everyone on Thanksgiving Day handing out food baskets for the families and helping the animals by stuffing
dog houses with straw and giving treats and food. We will also gather the Santa wish lists by asking the children what they
want and need.
This weekend, November 18th, is the 1st annual Mutt Strutt 5k run and 1 mile walk- should be lots of fun!
Hercules and Papoose found their forever homes!
Our dear little pony Francis was transported to Blacksburg to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for his leg
surgery. They will need to surgically fuse his left front pastern so that there is less movement therefore, less discomfort.
He will be hospitalized for 3-6 weeks but hopefully the vet students will fall in love with him and give him extra lovings.
Local Artist Tom Neel has offered to help the animals by providing a holiday giving opportunity to his clients.
October
We had a tough month. We lost 4 of our beloved shelter kitties this month. Mighty Mo was 14 years old, he was our shelter
manager and with us since day one. Louise was the love of our life. Tammy was our big beautiful hospice gal and then there
was Nibbles, our diabetic sweetheart. They will be deeply missed by all.
We held our 8th annual used horse equipment and blanket sale- it was a tremendous amount of work but a huge
success! We also held our 3rd annual MG Hunt Country Classic silent auction, what a fun event!
Happy the Pig was officially adopted! She has a lovely home and she adores her new dad.
September
After months of medical care, surgeries and lots of TLC, Penny found her forever home! Her new family lives right across the street from Tina, her MHF office pal. They are madly in love with her and she adores
them as well. She and Annie, her new furry sister have bonded quickly and they are quite a pair! We're so happy for her!
One of our volunteers stopped by and said that he thought that there may be an injured baby bobcat lying in his driveway.
We truly thought we would find a short tailed kitten but sure enough, it was a 4-5 month old Bobcat! He was the most gorgeous
animal we have ever seen. Unfortunately he had been hit by a car and was suffering from severe head injuries. The staff at
the Middleburg Animal
Hospital worked very hard to save his life but he didn’t make it. It
was a sad experience but it is good to know that we haven’t completely decimated them and they still do live around here.
