Raising Cane - "No one - not veterinarians, not any current or former owner - knows
what kinds of experiences the yellow lab now known as Cane underwent after he wandered away from his newly homeless New Orleans
family in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and before he was rescued by the Middleburg Humane Foundation (MHF) in mid-September
2005." Go to our "In The News" page to read the rest of the article.

UPDATE: On March 15th we returned to Fauquier county General District Court regarding the
criminal cruelty charges against Mr. & Mrs. Maher. Judge Foley
put the Mahers on a one year probation period with 200 hours of community service included. (See new article- "In the News") Our president Hilleary Bogley, who was the Humane Investigator for this case, must attend restorative justice meetings
with the family and she will be a part of the scheduling and requirments of the community service hours. Of the 77 animals
removed from this family, we have 8 goats, 4 geese, the 2 horses, Jacob the Border Collie and Arnold the pig still looking
for homes! All of the animals are looking better and better but still have months ahead of them for a complete recovery.
