Hilleary and Officer Phillippe (Fauquier County Animal Control) went to court this morning for 3 of the 6 horses seized last week from Goldvein (see Recent Rescues for more details).

The owner released ownership for his 3 horses to MHF, and we go back to court on October 16th for criminal cruelty charges on the other 3 horses (the donkey, the miniature horse, and the standardbred).

A note to our volunteers:  We have so many horses right now that keeping up with the fields is really hard!  Please contact us if you can help "poop scoop" over the next few weeks until we get these guys adopted/fostered.  Even one wheelbarrow-full would be a huge help!!!

Today was the seizure hearing for 50 of the animals seized on July 28th.  The owner released ownership of the animals to MHF and is facing 44 counts of "unfit owner" and 16 counts of "criminal cruelty to animals".  The trial date for that will be set on August 21st.

Please see In the News for articles in the Fauquier Times-Democrat pertaining to this case.

Many thanks to Donna McCain and Karen & Autumn Owens for representing MHF at Wylie Wagg's adoption day in Middleburg.  A lot of interested was garnered in several of our animals, and our friend Snickers found a home through this event!

Also, our volunteer coordinator, Lisa Andrews, would like to thank the following MHF volunteers for training the counselors of the Fairfax Leadership and Resiliency Program, and also for supervising the groups of counselors and teenagers that have come out to interact with the shelter animals:  Tammy Brown, Kathy Durand, Ann Emery, John Kronley, Donna McCain, Martha Munn and Debra Utterback.  Lisa couldn't get it all done without you, and the LRP kids really enjoy their time here thanks to you!
