We are very sorry to report that Officer Joseph Pushkal, NSAP, 1st Shift, passed away. The viewing is Thursday 10 April, from 2-4, 7-9 PM and Friday 10-10:45 at the Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Rd, Whiting, NJ 08759. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church (next to funeral home) at 11:00. Burial will follow at BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 12:30. Donations for flowers and a final tribute can me made to the MFive Society, PO Box 8606, Baltimore, MD, 21240, we will establish a US Savings Bond Fund for his surviving son.

Correctional Officer Jose Rivera was stabbed to death by two inmates at United States Penitentiary Atwater in Atwater, California. The inmates stabbed Officer Rivera with homemade knives as he was locking cell doors in preparation for the 4:00 pm headcount.

Other officers immediately responded to the location and restrained both suspects. Officer Rivera was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds several hours later.

Officer Rivera was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served with the Federal Bureau of Prisons for only 10 months.
