"Once the sorting area at the LMS Annapolis Compassion Center was renovated, the old sink seemed out of place with the new look.  We had to do something," said CAPT Kathleen (Kate) Morrison, MSC, USN, Ret.

So Kate, Rosemary Fronabarger and Barbara Miller - three LMS Annapolis volunteers affectionately known as "The Navy Ladies" - purchased and donated a new washtub for the center.  They even rounded up "handyman extraordinaire" CAPT Dave Wynkoop, MSC, USN Ret to install it.

After serving her country for 30 years in Navy Medicine, Kate wanted to give back to the Annapolis community by showing people how the Lord can work in their lives.  She has been an Annapolis Compassion Center for seven years, having been introduced to the LMS ministries by Dr. Richard L. Alms, the retired Executive Director.  "My husband Bob and I have many visitors who come to enjoy Annapolis, and many of them ask if they can go with me to [the] LMS [Compassion Center].  Helping people is infectious!"

Rosemary Fronabarger, whom Kate recruited seven years ago to be an LMS volunteer, is the wife of a retired Naval Officer who has lived in interesting places like Cuba, Kuwait and Morrocco.  "People can contribute to LMS in many ways, no matter what you can do.  Even sorting [donations] makes a big difference!" Rosemary said.

Barbara Miller, recruited by Kate and Rosemary about five years ago, volunteers at the Annapolis Compassion Center because she knows the work she does is needed and the people she works with really care.  She likes helping and being in the LMS environment.  Her husband retired from the United States Naval Academy in July of 2009, and they are staying in the Annapolis area.  That's a blessing for the Lutheran Mission Society.

"The Navy Ladies are so faithful and dedicated - we can always count on them," said Audrey Sheets, Annapolis Compassion Center Coordinator.  "It's amazing how many clothes they can sort on Tuesday mornings when they come in," she added.  Audrey looked over at the new sink.  "It's nice to have a new and fully-functioning wash area.  The Navy Ladies are really nice women who give the Mission Society a lot of support."
