Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry will begin knitting and crocheting once again on Saturday, September
20 at 10:00 AM in the Parlor (although we really have never stopped!) If you have been wanting to join us just come to any
monthly meeting that you are able. There are plenty of projects for everyone. If you want to learn how to knit or crochet
this is the perfect group for you too – no pressure and the lessons are free!
Projects include washcloths, bibs and baby blankets, baby hats, chemo caps,
bears for children with HIV/AIDS, and, of
course, Prayer Shawls.
The Penn Central Conference is also sponsoring a women’s retreat at Hartman Center
in September. Rev. Susan Minasian will be leading the retreat over the weekend of September 26-28. I am planning to attend
so see me if you want to ride along! The cost is $75 and you don’t have
to cook all weekend. (Link to the newsletter for more information.)

Join us
for the Middle East Peace Vigil
An ecumenical organization called Churches
for Middle East Peace, based in Washington, set up a plan whereby every day of the year some
church people will be praying for peace in the Middle East. The states of the United States were assigned dates of the month and we in Pennsylvania
share the date of the 9th of each month with Connecticut.
Since January of 2000 there has been a monthly vigil here at Salem.
Usually it is in the parlor or the library at 7:00 in the evening and is a simple time of candle lighting and prayer and often
an informative program about the region. On occasion we have addressed the needs of our own children in their school
environments and those of our military personnel wherever they are serving. When the 9th falls on a Sunday we sometimes
observe the vigil as a part of our morning service of worship and do not meet that evening. If you want more information
about these vigils contact Charlotte Whiting at 392-0287 or cmedc@aol.com.
