Nurse Mandatory Overtime Protection
Chapter #493 of the Laws of 2008 - (S8637 – Morahan / A11711 – Gunther)

This new law prohibits health care employers, including hospitals and nursing homes, from requiring nurses to work more than their regularly scheduled hours. The law provides enough flexibility to allow for voluntary overtime and exemptions for emergency situations. This law has been in the works for many years and is the culmination of efforts by many affiliates working together through the NYS AFL-CIO.  Effective July 1, 2009.
