How do I request a New Jersey GED transcript or diploma verification?
Through December 31, 2001, an official GED transcript, on New Jersey State letterhead, lists the highest scores earned
from all previous editions of the GED tests, including the 1988 edition of the tests, retired on December 31, 2001.
Beginning January 1, 2002, the official GED transcript, on New Jersey State letterhead, lists the highest scores earned
only on the 2002 edition of the GED tests. Scores from earlier editions of the GED tests will not be combined with scores
on the 2002 tests. An official transcript also verifies whether the person earned a New Jersey High School credential.
The diploma verification is an official document, on New Jersey State letterhead, certifying that a person has earned
the New Jersey State High School credential. It does not list the scores. This document has an original signature of the certifying
authority and the raised seal of the State of New Jersey.
- There are 4 ways to get the GED Transcript Request Form to request a transcript, diploma verification, and/or corrections to the GED records:
1. Access the Internet at home, work, or at a public library. Open or download the GED Transcript Request Form (Microsoft Word | PDF). Print out the form, complete, sign, and mail it to the:
GED Testing Program
Bureau of Adult Education and Family Literacy
New Jersey Department of Education
PO Box 500
Trenton, NJ 08625.
2. Pick up the form at a local testing center. 3. Call the automated GED information line at 609-777-1050. Record your
name and address on the voice mail and a form will be mailed to you. 4. Request a form by writing to the above address.
5. Request Forms are held on file for 6 months. A new form must be submitted with a new money order after the six month
deadline.
- The person who took the tests must take the following steps to ensure that
the request is processed:
1. Complete all parts of the GED Transcript Request
Form (Microsoft Word | PDF);
2. Sign the release of information section, granting permission to release GED record
information only to those named on the back of the form;
3. Enclose the exact amount of payment, in the form of a money order, payable to
the Commissioner of Education, for the total number of items ordered.
- Personal checks are not accepted at any time and will be returned, delaying the processing
of your request. Money orders are the only acceptable form of payment.
- The fee paid for processing all requests is non-refundable.
- It is important that you are accurate when indicating your Name at the Time of
Testing; Date of Last Testing; Place of Testing; and Social Security Number (or the identification number assigned to your
record) on the Request Form. Locating your records depends on the accuracy of the information that you provide.
- The GED Testing Program does not maintain all adult education records. The
program does not have records for the following persons:
1. Those who tested in a different state, country, or while in military service.
You did not complete the required for transferring GED scores. See Section: How to Qualify for a New Jersey State-endorsed
High School Diploma.
2. Those who tested at a federal correctional facility.
3. Those who graduated from a local district high school.
4. Those who graduated from a local adult high school.
5. Those who graduated from an education program in a correctional facility.
6. Those who took a pre-GED test at an adult education school.
