Dear Rebuilding Together Volunteers, Supporters,
and Friends -
As we approach the end of "not so hot" and somewhat wet Summer, we look
forward to the Fall with great enthusiasm and renewed commitment from our volunteers and supporters. Although the Rebuilding
Together home repair program mostly focuses on coordinating the annual Rebuilding Day each April, we are already preparing
in many other ways to make improvements to our existing program to continue to be strong and effective in delivering
free home repair services to the community.
Our goal, as always, is to reach as many low income individuals and families
in the greater Haverhill areas who have the greatest need. This requires an enormous amount of planning and the year round
dedication of the board and volunteers that are so committed and dedicated to making the Rebuilding Together program a success
and to serve the community in the best way possible. We continue to work as a team to come up with innovative ways to make
the program the best it can be! With the leadership and teamwork, we have many goals to reach this year.
Some
of the accomplishments since Rebuilding Day directly affect the upcoming year and there are many great things in the works.
We held a successful Golf Tournament fundraiser, Elected new officers to the board, received funding from the Community Development
Block Grant for the upcoming fiscal year, launched a community outreach campaign to make the program availability known and
scheduled Board Planning meetings for August and September to steer the course of the organization. We are also planning the
details of a project for September 11th Day of Service, as well as the National Slips, Trips and Falls Prevention Awareness
program. A thoughtful
look a the program implementation and careful planning will allow us to identify and improve in a few key areas in the upcoming
year. We hope that you will join us and be a part of the building on foundation of excellence and great reputation in the
community for a quality volunteer program.
Later this fall we will be seeking volunteers and sponsors for the Fall
Energy Efficiency Workshop and looking ahead to Spring to offer more comprehensive training for RT House Captains, Skilled
Trades and Volunteer Teams for Green Housing, Safety and Modification projects.
Please read on to
find out more about what we are up to and how you can help us--as a volunteer, sponsor, committee or board member or donor.
We are set to build and get to the next level of helping the community -- we hope you will be a part of it!
Best Regards,
Lynn Murphy Program
Manager Rebuilding Together Greater Haverhill
June Par 3 Golf
Tournament First, we had a very successful Par 3 Golf
tournament at Garrison Golf Center. Once again the long time sponsors and raffle donations, as well as the hospitality of
the Murphy's, enabled us to raise funds that help us to meet our annual budget goals. For the second year in a row, the
weather was a bit unsettled but ultimately we were graced with an encouraging rainbow between showers-- for the second year
in a row!!! Someone is surely watching over our program and its many supporters and participants. We thank everyone for joining
us and being an important part of the Rebuilding Together team!
Annual Board Meeting In
July. we held our Annual Meeting and elected the following officers and board for the upcoming year: Robert
Des Marais, President; Kay Spofford, Vice-President; Susan Hancox, Secretary; Jean McCann, Treasurer, Amy Anwyl,
Sharon Sullivan, and George Valvanis, board members.
The board wished to thank Peter Carbone, Gary Urso
and William C. Cunningham who given their time and skills to the community as volunteers as they rotate off of the Board of
the Directors this year. We appreciate all that they have done over the years and want to make sure they are recognized. Each
of the retiring board members has made special contributions that have made the organization stronger and better able to fulfill
its mission.
Peter Carbone, a volunteer for more than 15 years,
has headed up the Rebuilding Day volunteer yard crews and clean up committee each year, as well as served on PR and board
nomination committees. Mr. Gary Urso, joining the board in 2002 after volunteering for several years, has been a key organizer
of the very successful annual golf tournament fundraisers held at Murphy's Garrison Golf Center. In addition, Urso has has
served as Vice President and Treasurer for the organization. Mr. Cunningham, more commonly known as "B.J.", was one of the
original sponsors of the program in 1992. As the Vice-President of Coastal Industries, a custom manufacturer of aluminum and
vinyl doors and windows in Haverhill, he and his company have donated replacement windows and doors, as well as coordinated
a volunteer work crew each year. Through Mr. Cunningham’s leadership, Coastal Industries has donated over $150,000 (wholesale
value) of materials to the Rebuilding Together program. Each of these former board members has indicated they will remain active in the annual Rebuilding
Day program and we are looking forward to their continuing participation to help Haverhill residents.
Seeking New Members As new members join the organization, the leadership
of past members makes a big difference in providing continuity of program services. Each member makes a special contribution
and the Rebuilding Together program is able to help those with the greatest need to remain in their homes in safety, warmth
and independence. Because of you, the Rebuilding Together program has a strong place in the community and a bright future
and many elderly, disabled and low income families are grateful that they have made such a great impact in their lives. What
can you offer to Rebuilding Together and your community?
