Welcome

Miles of Trails!

Welcome to Henry Coe Park's Equestrian Site. With over 85,000 acres of ridges and canyons and gorgeous views, Henry Coe State Park, the second largest state park in California, is a paradise for equestrians. Although the park is only about an hour's drive from San Jose, it seems far removed from the bustle and clamor of Silicon Valley. Its back country provides a remote, serene environment for riders and their horses.

Awesome Views!

Mississippi Creek On top of Wilson Peak on a clear Spring day one can see the Pacific Ocean to the West and the snow capped mountains of Yosemite to the East. Yes, this is true! Down below you is Hunting Hollow with a meandering creek. In winter, the water may be rushing and if your are lucky you might spot a steelhead trout. This entrance to the park has excellent parking for horse trailers and is approximatley 8 miles from I101 and Leavesley Road.

Start out easy

Galloping Horse But if you plan to venture more than a few miles into the park, you and your mount should be in excellent physical shape. You should be prepared for steep, rugged terrain.

You may want to plan a day trip for your first visit, so that you can get an idea of the lay of the land. Afterwards, you might want to consider camping with your horse in the park. Start out gently with a 6.6 mile round trip ride through Hunting Hollow. Beautiful vistas and no steep incline here. Just a meandering stream in the Winter and Spring which you may find to be a challenge if your horse is not used to water crossings.

Check some of the other links on this page for infomation on how to get here and where to go when you do.
